What’s the journey been like going from a graduate to where you are now?

I feel really lucky. When I was job hunting, it was during COVID, and things were uncertain. I found EDF through my university’s website and thought it looked like an interesting opportunity. I applied, interviewed online, and got the job.

Starting out during COVID was challenging. I couldn’t go into the office, and as someone new to the career path, that was tough. But Teams calls and constant access to my line manager helped me adjust. A year later, they offered me a full-time role, and from there, I’ve built my commercial data knowledge and grown into my current position.

At EDF, we believe Success is Personal. What does success mean to you?

For me, success is when I set a goal, work towards it, and achieve it. It’s not just about career success - it’s about managing life and doing what makes you happy – enjoying where you are and turning your goals into reality.

What drew you to EDF?

EDF is a big energy company and energy felt like a stable sector. That sense of security appealed to me. What really impressed me, though, was the way EDF gave young people like me opportunities. They don’t expect you to know everything, they allow you to learn in the role, which I really appreciate.

Is there a lot of support at EDF, especially around mental health and wellbeing?

Definitely. When I joined, there was a virtual coffee rota so you could connect with different people online. As I progressed, EDF supported me with management training when I became a manager. It was amazing to learn alongside experienced people and share ideas. There are internal networks like the Women’s Network, which encourages more female involvement in the nuclear industry. We have regular talks from engineers and site workers, sharing their daily experiences. There’s also a Parenting Network, which supports parents across the business.

Recently, I have also joined the newly launched EmpowerYou programme, which is designed to support and empower women in the workplace. The initiative offers a range of development opportunities, including mentoring, leadership workshops, and networking events. It’s been a great way to connect with inspiring colleagues, build confidence, and contribute to a more inclusive and supportive work environment.

What about physical safety?

Safety is taken very seriously. We have daily safety messages, reminders about winter driving, using handrails, and much more. We’re encouraged to challenge each other if we see unsafe behaviour. There are also health checks and even 20-minute office massages. It’s great!

How would you describe the culture at EDF?

Inclusive. That’s the first word I’d use. Everyone’s voice is heard, no matter your seniority. If you do something well, people recognise it. They don’t just say, “That’s your job,” they genuinely appreciate your contribution. And if something goes wrong, it’s never harsh criticism. They help you learn and improve.

Can you walk us through what your day-to-day job looks like?

I work mostly with contracts data. We use a tool called CEMAR, where all signed contracts data and communication is stored. My job is to analyse that data - track early warnings, assess severity and likelihood, and compile reports for the senior leadership team. I also link this data with financial data to provide a clear picture of the supply chain performance.

Do you feel like you see the impact of your work?

Yes, it’s a two-way relationship. The job helps me grow, and my work helps the team make decisions. Every day brings new data and new challenges, which keeps it interesting. I often receive feedback or suggestions on how to present information differently, and those discussions help me grow and think outside the box.

Do you work flexibly?

Absolutely. I can work from home or in the office depending on what I need. Working from home is great for deep focus, while office time allows for quick conversations and collaboration. Our team also makes time for fun, like lunch catch-ups. In terms of flexibility, our goals are adaptable. Originally, we had an annual milestone plan, but we realised things change too quickly. Now we plan quarterly. That openness to change reflects the culture - everyone’s ideas are welcomed.

How does EDF make the most of your expertise?

I studied data science and statistics, and I’ve been able to apply that knowledge in my role. But I’ve also been encouraged to expand into new areas, such as gaining commercial contract knowledge. EDF supports self-learning through platforms like LinkedIn Learning, and both my manager and the leadership team are always open to me exploring new things.

What advice would you give to someone looking for opportunities and support at EDF?

There are always job opportunities here. Don’t worry if a role only matches 70% of your skills - you can learn the rest on the job. EDF gives you space to grow, and you don’t need to be perfect to start. Just be open to learning and trying.
