Completing a Creative Content placement with EDF

James joined EDF in September 2022 to complete a 12-month placement with our Creative Content team. We asked James to share what insights the placement is offering into the world of work and how this experience will compliment his Marketing Degree in his future career aspirations.

"This placement offers a vast amount of experience in creating content for important campaigns, which will significantly enhance my employability."

James, Creative Content Placement

Why did you decide to join EDF?

My primary reason for applying to EDF was due to my passion for the environment. I was intrigued by how the energy industry is adapting in order to help the climate crisis and EDF has strong desire to help Britain achieve Net Zero.

What are you enjoying most about your placement?

I love how I’m trusted with really important projects for EDF. I’ve already been involved in creating graphics for the COP27 energy conference, editing a video for one of our charity partnerships, as well as filming and editing my own footage for our Generation Senior Leadership Team. I've even been involved in filming our CEO!

What new skills are you learning?

I’ve learnt how to use Adobe Premiere Pro in order to edit videos to a professional standard, so that they can be published both internally and externally. I’ve also been trained to edit graphics professionally on Canva.

Tell us about the support you receive during your placement...

My line manager has supported and mentored me superbly. I receive lots of help with projects whenever I'm learning something new. I’m made to feel like its okay to make mistakes which is fantastic as this placement is all about learning.

What's the working pattern like?

The scheme allows a great level of flexibility, based upon your needs. The ability to split my time between the office and home enables me to balance my personal life alongside my work life.

Where would you like to take your career in the future?

In the future, I plan to be in a role similar to my current placement scheme - creating digital content such as videos and graphics, alongside other aspects of digital marketing.

Whether you’re motivated by fighting climate change; working in a diverse and inclusive environment; or gaining an insight into the world of work, we’d love to hear from you if you'd like to join the team!
