Exploring new opportunities on my EDF industrial placement

Daisy joined EDF in September 2025 on an Industrial Placement with our Customers Business Marketing team. Here, she shares why she applied and what she’s got from her EDF experience.

When I was looking for an industrial placement, I wanted to join an organisation with strong values, a global presence, and plenty of opportunities to learn. That's what attracted me to EDF.

The energy industry plays such a vital role in everyday life. It's something we all rely on constantly, and I was excited by the opportunity to gain experience in an industry that has such an important impact on society. I knew there would be plenty to learn, and I wanted to be part of that.

Since joining EDF, I've approached my placement with an open mind. I'm always keen to learn, take on new challenges, and gain experience in different areas. So far, I've completed two rotations, both of which have been very different and equally valuable. Each one has helped me broaden my knowledge, develop new skills, and better understand where my interests lie.

One of the things I've enjoyed most is being given opportunities to step outside my comfort zone. Whether it's taking on new tasks, supporting projects, or learning unfamiliar systems, every challenge has helped me grow. Having supportive colleagues and managers around me has made a huge difference too. Feedback has helped me improve, build confidence, and continue developing throughout my placement.

From day one, I felt welcomed and supported. The Early Careers team helped me feel prepared before I even started, and that support has continued throughout the programme. Development is genuinely at the heart of the experience. My managers have encouraged me to get involved in different opportunities across the business, helping me make the most of my time at EDF.

I've also had the chance to experience parts of the business I wouldn't normally have seen, including visiting different EDF offices and a nuclear power station. These experiences have given me valuable insight into the energy industry and helped me understand the scale and variety of careers available.

The learning opportunities have been fantastic. Alongside the experience gained in my day-to-day role, I've had access to additional resources such as LinkedIn Learning and support from colleagues across the business. Working in a professional office environment has also been an important part of my development, giving me experience that will benefit me when I return to university and throughout my future career.

Looking back, one of the biggest things I've gained from my placement is confidence. I've become more confident professionally, developed my networking skills, and strengthened my ability to communicate and work with different people. I've also built practical skills in areas such as copywriting, blog writing, design, customer service, Adobe software, and handling challenging situations professionally.

My favourite thing about the programme is simple: I genuinely enjoy my role and feel looked after. EDF has created an environment where I feel supported, encouraged to learn, and able to develop both personally and professionally.

For me, success on the Industrial Placement programme means making the most of every opportunity, continuing to learn, and growing in confidence. Looking back on my experience so far, that's exactly what I've been able to do.
