What does this year's International Women's Day theme, 'Accelerate Action' mean to you?

At EDF we're marking International Women's Day 2025 by speaking to amazing women from across the business about what this year’s theme, Accelerate Action, means to them.

Lilli Thompson

Concrete Mechanical Supervisor

"When I started seven years ago, I was one of a handful of women on site. There are now so many more women in high position roles. The opportunities are wide and readily available, and I don’t feel like your gender holds you back. Women can offer a different opinion and perspective, and this is valued. Every day is different, it’s never boring and the atmosphere is great."

Ashleigh Brown

IT Project Manager

"It’s encouraging progress towards gender equality and empowering women in the business. We want to grow the network to inspire women to strive for more, we have 150 members so far and want to encourage more men as allies."

Elena Demou

Senior Shift Trader (WMS)

"For me, ‘Accelerate Action’ means driving a shift in mentality within the trading sector, moving away from conventional thinking and empowering women to take on senior positions. It's about having trust in their abilities, giving opportunities and accelerating the movement towards gender equality. "

Megan Owen

Fuel and Reactor Physics Research Engineer

"To me it means achieving gender equity now rather than later. Male-dominated industries such as engineering need to encourage women to join by showing how valuable they already are and how they can succeed."

Emily Teehan

Maintenance Assistant Team Leader

"For me, it’s all about raising awareness that you can achieve your goals. I’m involved in a Science, Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) group at Dungeness. This month, along with a couple of other women from the station, I’ll be going to a school in Ashford to talk about women in engineering to promote it as a career path."

Annie Smith

Head of Nuclear IT Services

"In the digital community, we create environments where action is easy and decisions are clear. As leaders we need to foster a culture where it's safe to make decisions and learn from our mistakes, to support everyone who works with us to take action."
