Industrial Placements recruitment process

Our industrial placement recruitment process is rigorous and fair. A chance for us to find out whether your calling is to shape the future of energy – and if EDF Energy is the perfect home for your talents.

  • 1. Apply online
Your journey starts by registering online and completing the application form. We’ll ask for key information such as qualifications and work experience and why you want to work here.
    2. Online situational strengths testing
If you look like a good match for EDF Energy, we’ll ask you to complete an online situational strengths test. This assessment will give you the opportunity to show us your strengths and will give you an insight into the work our interns and industrial placements are involved in.
On successful completion of the Online Situational Strengths test you will be asked to complete an Online Numerical Reasoning test.
  • 3. Telephone interview
Get through the online stage and you’ll have the chance to tell us more about yourself during a short telephone interview. As well as giving more evidence of the skills and qualities we’re looking for, you’ll be able to show us you’ve given careful thought to your career choice.
    4. Interview
The last stage is to meet us for an interview. We’ll see how well you approach tasks, deal with issues and work with others. You’ll also get to learn more about our culture, our people and our programmes, as well as having the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and capability.
  • 5. Offer
Congratulations – you’ve made it through the interviews and we’d love for you to join our team. We’ll make you an offer very soon. If you accept, it’s the start of a very exciting career with EDF Energy.
We’ll keep in touch throughout the summer to make sure you’ve got everything you need for the months ahead.

Lee Manson’s experience, Industrial Placement

“I joined while studying to be an Electrical Design Engineer at university. It let me put theory into practice. I wouldn’t change it for anything else.”

Internships

This is an exciting time for the energy industry and as part of our Internship programme you’ll be at the forefront of innovation as we build a sustainable future for our business and our customers.

The Smart Energy Applications team’s expertise includes power and energy systems engineering, smart grids, techno-economic modelling of new technologies (e.g. battery storage), EV transportation, data analytics and smart meters. Your role will be to help develop two R&D tools: CELEST (Companion for Electric Switching Transition) and Parking Toolbox.

Over the course of the Internship, you’ll gain exposure to a variety of projects and technologies within our R&D team; as well as insights into our organisation, industry and life at EDF.

That experience, together with the skills you’ll develop while you’re with us, will prove invaluable when you’re back at university. And who knows? When you graduate, it could determine your next move.

Kiaya Pandya's experience, Blue Lab intern

EDF Energy offers an exciting insight into the energy sector, from generation through wholesale markets to customer service. As someone who aims to find a career in renewable energy, this broad overview, and variety of experience, has allowed me to grow my understanding of this diverse environment. My role involves researching, planning, developing and trailing new projects with the aim of rolling out the solutions we develop to the wider business. I have built a Facebook chat bot and am developing structures for a potential future app. I have been encouraged me to meet as many people, in as many different disciplines as possible, to help me gain a deeper, holistic view of the organisation. I have been sent to various offices and sites to talk with professionals in roles I am aiming towards. It was brilliant to get such an in-depth and personal insight into the world of offshore generation and R&D.
