Ayomide Ukpong's experience, Electrical Industrial Placement
I took the opportunity to complete a placement at EDF because I knew it would be a perfect avenue to gain first-hand information about electricity generation. It was an opportunity to gain practical skills required for the work environment in the energy industry. Having looked through the company’s missions and values, I was convinced that EDF would be a good company to work for as their values aligned with mine. I’m motivated by the idea of a fully powered world. I hope to see the day when over 50% of the world’s population will have access to affordable electricity and this is a development I want to be a part of, hence, my career choice in the energy industry. Also, you’ll work with people of diverse backgrounds and I believe a person with those attributes will soar high at EDF.

Charlie Burge's experience, Physics Industrial Placement
My background is within Physics and I’m currently studying towards a Master’s, so I was looking for a placement that would not only give me experience of working within industry but also use some of my knowledge and skills from my degree. EDF, being a nuclear operator, provides this opportunity with many interesting technical roles in areas from direct support to the power stations, all the way to research and development. You definitely need to be technically minded but certainly as an Industrial Placement student I was not expected to be an expert in the field. The company is very supportive and offers a great opportunity for you to learn. If you throw yourself into your team, get involved and importantly make opportunities for yourself then you’ll definitely excel here.
