We are currently looking to recruit a Site Nuclear Compliance Officer who will be reporting to the Nuclear Adjacent Facilities & Compliance Lead. This team is responsible for ensuring that compliance arrangements and procedures are defined and implemented effectively in relation to the Nuclear Site Licence (NSL), planning obligations, and lease restrictions for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) construction site.

As a Site Nuclear Compliance Officer, you will work with responsible managers, to ensure that staff, contractors, and consultants working on the HPC construction site understand what is required to demonstrably comply with the requirements of the NSL, planning permission and lease obligations. Guidance will be given in these areas by identifying shortcomings and promoting a proportionate approach to continuous improvement. This will require a combination of desk-based activity as well as an active onsite presence to observe or inspect activities.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Authoring compliance assessment reports, the results of which will inform understanding of compliance status and be used to assist others in improving compliance performance
  • Undertake inspections of site activities and interviews of key stakeholders to assess compliance position
  • Deliver compliance monitoring on HPC main site against these arrangements with the NSL, planning permission and lease obligations, including production of a monthly compliance dashboard
  • Ensure that responsible managers have clear definition of their compliance arrangements
  • Facilitate self-assessment by responsible managers of site activities to assess compliance against the NSL, planning permission and lease obligations.
  • Provision of written and verbal advice on compliance with the NSL, planning obligations and lease restrictions and obligations for HPC to the rest of the HPC Construction Team and delivery partners.
  • Engage in a programme of education, coaching and mentoring to ensure that NNB staff and contract partners understand their obligations to comply with the NSL, planning and lease obligations, as well as supporting compliance arrangements put in place.
  • Engage in effective communication between all relevant internal and external Stakeholders, including delivery partners, in ensuring that the above requirements are clearly understood and complied with. This may involve delivering contract specific awareness briefings when a new contractor is being mobilised to site or providing and delivering specific topic-related briefs following the identification of specific shortfalls.
  • Review and comment on contractors’ schedules and management plans on behalf of the Site Nuclear Compliance team against the NSL, planning permission and lease obligations, to ensure continued compliance with our obligations.
  • Supporting the team with the project arrangements for interacting with Hinkley Point A (HPA) and Hinkley Point B (HPB)

 

Who you are…

  • Typically qualified in a Science or Engineering discipline
  • Experience in an engineering environment
  • Previous experience of dealing with multiple stakeholders
  • Previous experience of working on a large construction project, preferably within the Nuclear Industry, would be an advantage
  • Experience of working with and developing good relationships with external stakeholders such as regulators, planning authorities and contract partners
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive
