The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Commercial Manager to join our team here at EDF Renewables in Ireland.

As a Senior Commercial Manager, you will be responsible to drive the commercial mandate for the business centred on a strategy for growth requiring strong a commercial delivery focus to maximise value and to successfully deliver the pipeline of projects within business case parameters. The role will lead on commercial development strategies for the pipeline of multi-technology projects, renewable energy deal acquisition strategies, transaction management & completions and the successful achievement of equity investment approvals. You will play a crucial role in securing suitable sites and negotiating land agreements with various stakeholders in line with project requirements.

What you’ll be doing

What we need is someone to identify and evaluate potential land sites for wind, solar, and battery renewable energy projects – is that you? 

If so, you’ll also be an integral part of the team to;

Business Knowledge and Experience

  • Lead the business commercial activities and form part of the overall leadership team within Ireland delivering the strategy for the Irish business.
  • Provide leadership to the development team to ensure projects are developed and delivered to maximise value creation, achieve business case requirements deploying project optimisation plans in accordance with internal governance processes and managing key internal stakeholders input, as appropriate.
  • Accountable to secure Final Investment Decision’s (FiD) for projects requiring co-ordination of external and internal development, technical, financial, legal stakeholders.
  • Expand the business relationship network within EDF Group and externally to identify commercial growth opportunities and represent the business with trade associations and other key industry forums.
  • Produce business performance reports and board papers to provide business updates to the Executive and Shareholders on the pipeline progress and key commercial business activities.
  • Support the Head of Onshore Technologies in relation to strategy, budget and business planning.
  • Working closely with the senior management team to ensure aligned leadership and direction to the team including ensuring strategic and project resource needs are met.
  • Input into future resource forecast requirements to support portfolio growth and delivery against overall strategy and project delivery plans.
  • Development and coaching of the business development & commercial team to foster an inclusive team culture and develop key competencies within the team and working with the Head of Onshore Technologies to ensure clear development pathways for all members within the team.
  • Responsible for leading and demonstrably cultivating a team culture which values and supports safety initiatives within EDFR.

Functional / Technical Skills

  • Responsible for the business development activities across the renewable energy sector for successful completions of acquisitions, disposals, partnership transactions.
  • Identify innovative route to market opportunities for the pipeline of projects and optimise revenue opportunities for renewable energy assets
  • Act as the overall Bid Manager and implement the necessary governance protocols for route to market auction processes including ownership of model data inputs books across the project lifecycle
  • Accountable for the financial evaluation of equity investments in relation to the portfolio pipeline, potential acquisitions and cash-flow modelling for business capital funding options.
  • Identify and scan the market for new and innovative commercial opportunities for existing & new technologies by producing robust techno-commercial appraisals
  • Take a lead role in the decision-making process during the key stages of the project maturation, specifically, development stage, procurement strategies, project financing, pre-construction activities, Investment Case Approval, start of construction, start of operations, etc.
  • Ensure that the pipeline of projects (greenfield & acquisitions) are progressed in accordance with the prescribed project governance frameworks for effective decision making and in accordance with all business policies and procedures.

  • Strong Leadership: Able to provide clear direction to the team and business in an evolving landscape with a focus on continued professional development for team members. Creating a culture of excellence that takes a whole lifecycle approach to all activities. Ensuring risk and lifetime costs are central to the assessment of all activities undertaken in relation to the pipeline of projects.
  • Planning and Prioritisation: Structured approach to managing workload in a way that is achievable and readily conveyed to stakeholders.
  • Create the right solution: Challenge established practices, and where appropriate identify improved methods to meet business needs driving a focus on continued improvement within the team.
  • Communication Skills: Able to clearly articulate complex issues and proposed resolutions – provide data and utilise in a way that support and explains the problem statement and solution.
  • Implementation: Proactively follow through on activities and projects to delivery high quality outcomes

Location: This will be a hybrid role with a contractual location in Dublin. You must be open to travelling to our locations for site visits.
