We’re currently recruiting for Radiological Protection Technicians at Sizewell B Power Station. As part of our Environmental Support Group, this is a key role in the implementation of radiological protection standards and supports compliance with company standards and UK legislation.

Your day-to-day will revolve around completing radiation and contamination surveys and providing a monitoring service to work groups, as well as the decontamination of personnel, plant and equipment.

We can offer a competitive salary from £38,846 depending on experience, and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence and qualifications.

What you’ll be doing
The responsibilities of this position include:
- Compliance Surveys
- Monitoring materials and waste before release from the Controlled Area
- The examination and testing of protective clothing and respiratory protection equipment
- Control, management and fit testing of respiratory protective equipment
- The maintenance and testing of fixed and portable Radiological Protection monitoring equipment
- The control and periodic testing of radioactive sources
- The control, maintenance and testing of radiological vacuum cleaners and filtered extract equipment
- Installation and removal of radiation shielding
- Responding to abnormal radiological events and implementing site contingency arrangements
- District Survey Lab duties
- Dosimetry clerk cover.
You’ll also be required to undertake a role in accordance with the Station Emergency Plan which means you must reside within 25 miles or 45 minutes travelling time of the Station. You must be in possession of a full driving licence.
Who you are
You should possess a good general education, to GCSE or equivalent levels, that include ‘C’ and above passes in English and Mathematics.
Knowledge of operational Radiological Protection would be considered an advantage however training will be given to enable you to fulfil the requirements of the post. If you have knowledge of our site, or similar, without experience in radiological protection we’d still like to hear from you!
You’ll be expected to act as a role model in demonstrating appropriate behaviours and practices when performing Radiological Protection duties. You should also be able to reinforce good radiological practices and to coach others to adopt these practices.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
