About the Role

Energise Your Career, Accelerate a Net-Zero Future #RenewablesJobs

The opportunity

Are you ready to be at the forefront of the UK’s low carbon transition? We’re looking for a Project Development Engineer to play a key role in supporting the technical development of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), while also supporting solar and private wire projects where needed.

This is a great opportunity to shape the technical delivery of grid-scale battery systems — helping take projects from early-stage development through to construction. As our portfolio matures, there’s strong scope for the right person to become directly involved in project delivery, so previous construction or delivery experience is highly valued.

While experience of battery projects is desirable, we’re open to individuals with a background in renewables, infrastructure, or civil engineering — especially if you're keen to learn and bring a practical, hands-on approach. If you're a technically-minded all-rounder, motivated, willing to learn, and ready to get stuck in — this could be the role for you

Pay, benefits and culture

If you’re looking to join a company where you can work hard, have fun, and help to create a Net Zero future – then you’re in the right place!’

Our passion for embracing new ideas and being open-minded to change helps us continue to grow successfully.

We’re committed to helping all of our people thrive during their time with us, recognising and rewarding every person for their hard work and commitment.

Alongside a competitive salary, bonus, and market-leading pension scheme, we offer a range of flexible benefits and employee discounts to help you thrive across all aspects of your life. You can spend your flexible fund on the benefits that matter to you, whether that’s an electric vehicle, private healthcare, additional holiday or one or more of our other benefits.

We’ll offer you the flexibility, freedom and responsibility to make an impact in your role; whether that’s on-site, in the office or hybrid working from home.

We’re committed to championing diversity representation across gender, ethnicity, LGBT+, disability and more. This applies to all our roles, underpinned by our Everyone’s Welcome inclusion programme.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be the early-stage Owners Engineer; supporting the development of BESS projects from a technical and engineering perspective

  • Coordinating key technical inputs (e.g. layouts, access routes, cranage, fire safety, noise, cable routing)
  • Assisting in the review of survey outputs (e.g. geotechnical, flood risk, noise) and identifying practical implications
  • Preparing technical drawings and documentation to support planning applications
  • Working with suppliers and internal engineering teams to assess evolving technologies and design solutions
  • Contributing to discussions on land boundaries, access points, and constructability considerations
  • Helping to bridge between development and delivery teams as projects progress
  • Preparing concise technical notes and reports to support project governance
  • Maintaining structured project records and documentation
  • (Where appropriate) contributing to mentoring or knowledge sharing with junior team members
  • Willing to develop as an Owners Engineer and support projects in the delivery phase as the portfolio matures
  • Optimise electrical design for lifetime cost, performance, and safe decommissioning.

What do you need to be great at this role?

A bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar, with a propensity for advancement in further education.

  • Although part of a team providing support amongst colleagues, due to the project nature of the role we are seeking a self-starter who is capable of working autonomously, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines and multi-task.
  • Ideally more than four years’ experience in project development / development engineering (Renewable / Construction/ infrastructure or similar with an engineering bias, however this is flexible.)
  • Experience of managing contractors and consultants.
  • Experience of completing due diligence on site development documentation, reporting on findings and identifying solutions
  • A general understanding of Battery energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Photovoltaic Systems (PV), in particular development considerations is desirable, training will be provided.
  • Experience in the preparation of technical specifications and other technical documents.
  • You would demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, health, environment and quality. NEBOSH or IOSH (or equivalent) certification is desirable, but not essential, as training will be provided. Willingness to learn quickly on the job with aspirations for development.
  • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills with ability to read and understand detailed documents (e.g. project plans, survey reports, electrical design and legal contracts) and to write project reports concisely.
  • Comfortable working with numbers and interpreting statistics.
  • Delivery focused and resilient.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD or equivalent (e.g. SLD, Layouts drawings)
