About the Role

Operate Technician

Are you a quick learner with a keen eye for detail and a safety-focused attitude?

We’re looking for Shift Operate Technicians to join our Operations department on Heysham 2 Power Station.

The Opportunity

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to pursue a hands-on, technical career based at EDF Heysham 2 Power Station, playing an active role in the generation of zero carbon electricity for the UK.

As an Operate Technician, you’ll help to ensure that our plant and equipment is being effectively monitored and operated in accordance with our arrangements and procedures.

If successful, we will take you through our comprehensive training programme to ensure that you become fully conversant and competent to safely operate the plant under the instruction of our control room teams.

Since our Operate Technicians are a part of our shift teams, you will also have an active role in the station’s Emergency Preparedness scheme.

You will become a Breathing Apparatus wearer and will be trained and qualified to respond to emergency situations in line with the station’s Site License requirements – for this you must be clean shaven.

If this sounds like an opportunity you are interested in, we’d love to hear from you!

Pay, benefits and culture

We offer a competitive starting salary of £42,383, increasing to £48,943 with experience and training.  As you will be working shifts, you will also receive shift pay and an emergency scheme member payment along with an extensive benefits package.

At EDF, everyone is welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.

We would like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We are a disability confident employer, and we will do all we can to help with your application, adjusting as you need. We will value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you’ll be doing

Once you’ve completed the Operate Technician training programme.

You’ll be fully immersed into the world of Operations, performing safe and reliable operations on the plant.

Once qualified, you will conduct daily plant surveillances; identify and raise plant defects; investigate plant faults; carry out minor maintenance; process alarms and take part in our Plant Improvement and Ownerships schemes.

You will be trained to operate the plant both systematically and reliably, using our Human Performance program tools and techniques.

You will log your activities to ensure an accurate and comprehensive handover.

What you will be doing

You will ideally have experience in electricity generation or a process engineering / industrial operations environment.

At EDF energy, our core values are Integrity, Agility and Excellence, which we live every day, so we’ll be looking for you to share these values.

You’ll be safety focused with a Questioning Attitude; able to acknowledge and identify your own errors and be able to challenge others.

You will seek help when needed whilst avoiding risks.  You will follow our policies and procedures carefully.

You must be a confident decision maker, able to operate within the boundaries of your training and experience.

You will always prioritise safety.

Who you are

As a minimum, we would expect candidates to have achieved a good level of education and an HNC would be an advantage but is not essential.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 25th June 2025.

Interviews and assessment days from approximately 9am until 4pm will take place week commencing 14th July 2025.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.
