About the Role

The Opportunity

As an Operate Technician, you will be a valued member of the station at Hartlepool to ensure the daily operations run smoothly and offer the best performance possible. You will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation of a nuclear power plant in accordance with all licenses, regulating bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices. You will also be required to perform Emergency Scheme duties after completion of training to support for any emergency that should occur.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

The salary range is between £44,121rising to a maximum of £55,574 upon successful completion of training for all 4 Plant Areas.  Terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement.  Upon successful completion of your initial training which will be undertaken on days you will be eligible for shift pay. You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency-based progression and a Company pension scheme.

What You’ll Be Doing

The Role

Working 12-hour shifts averaging 37 hours per week of 07:30hrs - 19:30hrs and 19:30hrs - 07:30hrs, you will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the plant, helping to deliver the station’s Operations programme.

Below is a brief overview of the duties involved in the role.:

  • Monitor plant condition, identifying and resolving sub-standard conditions through work requests, performing minor tool pouch maintenance and reporting civil defects through the helpdesk processes
  • Respond to requests from the Control Room to investigate plant alarms and perform required operations
  • Control and closely monitor plant and equipment to support the process by following procedures
  • Apply conservative decision-making techniques and work effectively within a team environment
  • Show a solid understanding of plant operation, design and theory (comprehensive training will be provided)
  • Investigate and rectify plant faults within your own area of demonstrated competence
  • Carry out minor maintenance and health physics monitoring as required by the process

Who you are

  • Previous experience working in a heavy process environment in Operations or Engineering role with supporting qualifications.
  • Good level of computer literacy i.e. able to use Word, Excel and bespoke systems.
  • Strong understanding of general literacy i.e. able to read and follow written process instructions and complete paperwork accurately
  • A flexible approach to work/duties and willing to undertake necessary training programme.
  • Able to work as part of a small team and cross functionally with other departments.
  • As a minimum, entrants will be educated to GCSE/National Qualifications standards (or equivalent).

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.
