The opportunity

SAS Energy is a UK-based renewable energy specialist and a wholly owned subsidiary of EDF Renewables, the C&I (Commercial and Industrial) solar division of EDF Renewables.

This is your opportunity to work as Lead Legal Counsel where you’ll provide strategic legal support across all stages of SAS Energy projects, including contracts for land and grid access, PPAs, construction, O&M, and the supply chain. The role ensures timely, risk-appropriate advice to protect the business and secure favourable outcomes.  You’ll lead the legal efforts at SAS Energy, driving everything from strategic project contract negotiations to ensuring strong and effective internal governance.

It also involves advising the SAS Energy board on high-priority legal issues, acting as the primary legal contact for EDF Renewables and the wider EDF Group, and managing external legal advisors. The Lead Legal Counsel is responsible for maintaining robust legal processes, ensuring governance compliance, and supporting project teams and senior leadership.

This role is integrated into the EDF Renewables legal community, offering access to broader group expertise and support.

We’re looking for a sharp, commercially-minded legal professional with 6–7+ years’ post-qualification experience—ideally in the renewable energy sector or a similarly fast-paced, regulated environment.

You’ll be confident drafting and negotiating complex construction, commercial, and corporate contracts, with deep knowledge of UK law and energy regulation. You’ve got a proven track record of shaping legal strategy, delivering results, and managing risk in high-stakes environments.

We want someone who can thrive under pressure, communicate clearly across all levels of the business—including shareholders—and turn complex legal issues into practical, actionable advice. You’ll be detail-oriented, well-organised, and bring strong drafting, research, and prioritisation skills—plus a flexible, business-focused mindset that drives smart decisions.
