The Opportunity
As a Civil Engineer at EDF UK, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering major Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) projects at Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C, while also supporting our fleet of operating nuclear power stations. You’ll be part of the Civil Engineering Branch within Nuclear Services and will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience and developing your technical skills in a safety-focused, collaborative environment.
You’ll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, from external designers to regulators, and travel to key sites to maintain oversight and drive project success. Your expertise will help us fulfil our ‘Intelligent Customer’ responsibilities, ensuring our designs and operations meet the highest standards.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a salary starting from £45,000, depending on experience, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.
We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What you’ll be doing
As a Junior Civil Engineer within Nuclear Services, you will be responsible for and involved in:
- Supporting the review and acceptance of nuclear-classified structural designs.
- Assisting in the release of design packages for construction.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory and technical standards.
- Participating in outage activities and investment delivery projects.
- Building relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including regulators.
Overall, you’ll be at the forefront of civil design and construction for Hinkley Point C, contribute to the ramp-up of Sizewell C, and support life extension projects for our existing nuclear fleet. Your work will directly impact and contribute to Britain’s journey to #CarbonNetZero.
This is a role where your expertise will shape the future of nuclear energy, offering both challenge and reward in equal measure.
Who you are
You will hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and bring experience as a Civil/Structural Engineer, ideally working towards Chartership status. You’re skilled in designing or reviewing reinforced concrete and steelwork structures, working to Eurocodes or other recognised standards.
You’re confident leading integrated technical solutions, governance, and stakeholder engagement. Your analytical mindset, attention to detail, and ability to work independently set you apart. Above all, your communication and interpersonal skills enable you to thrive in a collaborative, innovative environment.
If you’re ready to progress your Civil Engineering career and want to be part of a team shaping the future of nuclear energy in the UK, we’d love to hear from you.
