Ready to begin a career in the nuclear industry where you'll develop specialist skills, gain unique operational experience and play a vital role in keeping low-carbon electricity flowing safely to homes and businesses across the UK? At EDF Nuclear Operations, Success is Personal and we'll support you to build a rewarding career while helping keep our stations operating safely and effectively.
As an Environmental Safety Technician, you'll play a key role in radiation protection, environmental monitoring, and maintaining radiological safety standards at #Heysham 1 Power Station. Working within the Environmental Safety team, you'll contribute directly to the safe operation of the station while supporting EDF's journey towards An Electric Britain.
This is a full-time, site-based role at #Heysham 1 Power Station. You'll work closely with colleagues across the station, providing specialist environmental safety support and developing valuable technical expertise through comprehensive training and authorisation programmes.

What You'll Be Doing
- Measuring levels of radiation and contamination, recording results and reporting findings as required
- Supporting colleagues to work safely in areas affected by radiation and contamination
- Setting up, calibrating and commissioning radiological measuring equipment while reporting defects as required
- Collecting and processing active waste in line with station procedures and regulatory requirements
- Carrying out environmental sampling, analysis, and monitoring activities to support effluent discharge authorisations
Who You Are

Full training will be provided, giving you the opportunity to develop specialist radiological protection knowledge and skills. Do you offer...?
- GCSEs, National Qualifications, or equivalent qualifications
- A full valid UK driving licence would be advantageous
- The ability to live within approximately 25 to 30 miles of #Heysham 1 Power Station to support participation in the Nuclear Emergency Scheme
Experience in environmental safety, environmental monitoring, radiological protection, or a related discipline would be beneficial. Experience working within a regulated industry such as nuclear, utilities, manufacturing, defence, pharmaceuticals, or similar would also be advantageous.
The role will require you to safely undertake technician work, including climbing ladders, working at height, lifting and carrying equipment, and accessing plant and equipment in a range of working environments.
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
