About the Role

Looking to be part of something extraordinary? Join us at Hinkley Point C, where we’re shaping the future of energy in the UK. As a Commissioning Engineer specialising in Fire Safety Systems, you’ll play a vital role in one of Europe’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. If you're passionate about fire detection, thrive in dynamic environments, and want to make a real impact on the journey to Net Zero, this could be your next big move.

This role will require the candidate to work on our Hinkley Point site, Bridgwater regularly (at least once a week) and will increase gradually until a full-time presence at site will be required to run the commissioning tests.

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As part of the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) commissioning team, you’ll help ensure the fire detection systems are fully operational and compliant with design specifications. Your work will be key to handing over a safe, efficient plant to future operators. Based at HPC with occasional travel to Bridgwater, Bristol, and supplier sites, this is your chance to contribute to a project that’s powering the UK’s low-carbon future.

Pay, Benefits & Culture

The salary range associated with this role is from £55,000, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, and a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you’ll be responsible for preparing and overseeing contractor-led commissioning activities. This includes reviewing system designs and specifications, defining roles and responsibilities, and ensuring all commissioning efforts are aligned with project objectives and regulatory standards.

You’ll lead the charge during site integration testing, verifying that fire detection systems interface seamlessly with other key systems such as HVAC, dampers, lifts, and access control doors. The commissioning process will begin with independent testing of the fire detection systems, followed by compatibility testing with connected equipment, ensuring the future operability and safety of the entire plant.

Throughout all stages of commissioning, you will remain accountable for the integrity of the fire detection system. Your technical oversight will be essential in maintaining system reliability and ensuring that all components function as intended within the broader infrastructure.

You’ll also plan and execute surveillance of contractor activities, developing surveillance plans and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and contractual requirements. Collaboration is key, you’ll liaise with responsible designers, systems engineers, project managers, suppliers, and technical oversight teams to resolve open points and align on project deliverables.

In addition, you’ll contribute to the creation and review of technical documentation and provide critical input to the central planning team. Your understanding of fire detection system architecture and its interface points will help shape integration strategies and project timelines.

Who You Are

You bring a degree or HNC in a relevant engineering discipline, along with solid experience in fire detection or a related field. You’re comfortable navigating large-scale industrial environments and ideally have some exposure to the nuclear sector.

You understand the importance of precision and rigour, especially in safety-critical systems. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you’re adaptable, focused, and ready to take on complex challenges across multiple I&C systems.

Your knowledge of fire safety standards is strong: BS 5839-1, BS 7273-4, and BS EN 15004-1 are familiar territory. You’re ready to apply that expertise to a project that’s as ambitious as it is meaningful.

Closing date for applications is 15th June. Interviews will follow shortly after.
