About the Role

Operational Delivery Engineer

Are you confident in analysing complex systems and proposing improvements that support long-term operational efficiency? Are you comfortable collaborating across departments to develop and implement technical strategies for large-scale projects? Are you driven to continuously expand your technical knowledge, particularly within nuclear or highly regulated environments?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as our next Operational Development Engineer here at Hinkley Point C!

The Opportunity

As our next Operational Development Engineer (Work Management), you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of Hinkley Point C by supporting the delivery of its operational Work Management Strategy. Working closely with the Pre-Operations Work Management Lead, you’ll help define Functional Equipment Groupings (FEG) and isolation boundaries for each system—critical work that enables effective maintenance planning while the reactor is at power. You’ll also contribute to the development of HPC’s first operational maintenance planning and execution processes on site.

This is a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of pressurised water reactors, drawing on insights from the UK nuclear fleet and other new build projects, while actively supporting HPC’s journey from construction to operation.

Pay, benefits and culture

In addition to offering a salary of £54,000 depending on experience, we offer flexible benefits that support our employees’ physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. Examples include: a market-leading company pension scheme, a bonus plan, health cover, electric vehicle leasing, mental health support and employee discounts.

At EDF, everyone is welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We would like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We are a disability confident employer and will do all we can to support you through your recruitment journey with us.  If you would like to talk about adjustments, or support you may need, please note this within your application.

We will value the difference you bring and give you opportunities to thrive and succeed.

What you will be doing

As an Operational Development Engineer (Work Management), you’ll play a key role in shaping how Hinkley Point C prepares for safe and efficient operations. Working across teams and departments, you’ll support the design and delivery of robust work management strategies that align with nuclear safety standards and long-term operational goals. This role gives you the chance to build deep technical expertise in both nuclear and conventional systems, influence future plant performance, and grow your capabilities as the project evolves.

  • Provide input into the development and delivery of System Aligned Work Windows (SAWW), ensuring maintenance schedules align with operational risk, technical specifications, and nuclear safety
  • Build a strong technical understanding of HPC systems to support informed decision-making
  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of operational standards, procedures, and maintenance strategies
  • Draft key documents, including Work Instructions and Work Management strategies, aligned with project needs
  • Collaborate closely with other departments at HPC, EPR Family Stations, and EDF Energy’s wider Nuclear Business to ensure consistency and integration
  • Support the identification and management of issues that could affect future plant availability
  • Bring insights from other industries to help HPC set new standards of excellence
  • Stay flexible and proactive in your development, using your time and skills effectively while continuing to expand your capabilities
  • Take on increasing responsibility and ownership as your experience and expertise grow

Whether you've gained your experience in a regulated industry, through system engineering, or maintenance on process systems, what matters most is your ability to interpret technical information, manage data effectively, and contribute to the safe and efficient running of one of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure projects. You’ll bring strong analytical and organisational skills, a proactive mindset, and a willingness to learn and develop with the project.

  • Science and/or engineering background with a relevant degree, HNC/HND or equivalent
  • Experience in reviewing and developing technical information
  • Previous experience in system engineering or maintaining process systems
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and interpreting technical documentation
  • Strong Excel and data management skills, with proficiency in data reporting tools and Microsoft applications
  • Understanding or experience of FEG identification and System Aligned Work Windows (SAWW)
  • Experience using key asset management tools such as Asset Suite
