About the Role

Nuclear Safety Lead

Are you ready to shape the future of nuclear safety in one of the UK’s most ambitious low-carbon energy projects? At EDF UK, we’re looking for someone who’s passionate about building a world-class safety culture, someone who thrives on collaboration, innovation, and making a real impact. If you’re driven by purpose and want to be part of something truly transformative, this could be the role for you.

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As Nuclear Safety Lead, you’ll be at the heart of embedding a robust nuclear safety culture across the HPC project. You’ll shape strategy, influence stakeholders, and ensure best practices are not only adopted but lived. From designing training programmes to guiding contractual frameworks, your work will help ensure that safety is more than a standard, it’s a mindset shared by everyone on site.

This role does require you to be on site at out Hinkley Point C site, Bridgwater.

Pay, Benefits & Culture

The salary range associated with this role is circa £70,000, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, and a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What You’ll Be Doing

This role sits within the Safety and Schedule Assurance Directorate of Nuclear New Build, the team responsible for delivering two new European Pressurised Water Reactors (EPRs) at Hinkley Point C. As part of this directorate, you’ll help shape the policies, standards, and governance that underpin one of the most complex infrastructure projects in the UK.

You’ll lead the charge in embedding a strong nuclear safety culture across the project and its supply chain. From designing and delivering training to hosting workshops and webinars, you’ll ensure that safety is not just a requirement, but a shared value. You’ll also support leadership development, chair best practice communities, and engage with regulators and industry bodies to keep our standards world-class.

Your work will be both strategic and hands-on. You’ll monitor performance through data and feedback, advise on improvements, and act as a visible role model for safety excellence. Your insights will directly shape how we operate, before, during, and after fuel delivery.

Who You Are

You’re someone who brings leadership, influence, and a collaborative mindset to everything you do. You’ve led people, projects, or programmes, ideally within multidisciplinary teams and you know how to bring new processes to life in complex environments. Your understanding of nuclear technology, particularly EPR or pressurised water reactors, gives you the confidence to navigate technical challenges with ease.

With a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant science or engineering discipline, you’re a strong communicator who can engage stakeholders at all levels. You’re comfortable working to deadlines and within budgets, and you thrive in dynamic, high-impact settings.

It’s a bonus if you’ve worked with nuclear regulators, supported international collaboration, or have experience in light water nuclear power plants. Most importantly, you’re passionate about building a culture where safety is second nature and you’re ready to help lead the way.

Closing date for applications is 3rd June, interviews will follow shortly after.
