About the Role

Hinkley Point C

Are you a passionate Nuclear Safety professional ready to take the next step in your career? Do you have experience leading multidisciplinary teams and driving safety excellence in complex environments? Are you someone who thrives in a high-performance, fast-paced project where safety and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do? If so, come and join EDF as a Nuclear Safety Culture Lead!

The Opportunity

As the Nuclear Safety Culture Lead, you’ll be responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining the nuclear safety culture strategy at Hinkley Point C during the project phase. This includes supporting the creation of contractual requirements, process documentation, guidance materials, and training strategies to embed a strong and consistent safety culture across the organisation and supply chain. You’ll ensure ongoing review and continuous improvement of nuclear safety culture arrangements, while supporting the project in meeting its safety objectives. By engaging with industry leaders, regulators, and benchmarking best practices, you’ll help shape a high-performing, safety-focused environment at every level of the project.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a starting salary of £70,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll lead the development and implementation of the Nuclear Safety Culture (NSC) strategy at Hinkley Point C, setting clear standards and expectations for the workforce and supply chain. This includes delivering culture development plans, supporting leadership training, and ensuring all roles reflect the required nuclear safety competencies. You’ll also provide advice to suppliers and help embed consistent, safe working practices across the project.

You’ll design and deliver a range of NSC training and engagement activities, including monthly nuclear safety culture training, tailored sessions for suppliers, and project-wide communications like webinars, printed materials, and information boards. You’ll also lead the NSC Community of Best Practice and represent the project in external forums and regulatory meetings, such as those with the ONR and the UK Safety Directors Forum.

You’ll monitor safety culture performance through observations, surveys, and data analysis, using insights to identify trends and drive improvements. This includes reviewing incident reports, updating relevant procedures, and developing targeted materials. As a visible role model, you’ll promote and maintain a strong nuclear safety culture to ensure the highest standards are achieved before fuel delivery to site.

Who you are

Being part of the Nuclear Safety Culture team at Hinkley Point C means demonstrating strong leadership and influencing skills across complex projects and multidisciplinary teams. You’ll bring experience in developing and implementing new processes, along with a solid understanding of nuclear technology—ideally including EPR or Pressurised Water Reactors. Excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver work on time and within budget are essential.

You’ll hold a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant science or engineering discipline and bring a strong foundation in working within technically complex environments. Your role will involve navigating a high-performance culture where clarity, accountability, and safety are key to success.

Experience with driving culture change within a complex industry would be highly beneficial.

We’re looking for someone with experience interacting with nuclear regulators and a background in light water reactor operations or similar project-based environments. Familiarity with working across international organisations to enhance performance and alignment is desirable, as is experience operating in a highly regulated, safety-critical industry.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 18th June 2025.
