Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater
Are you a skilled Mechanical Engineer with a passion for solving complex piping engineering challenges? Join our dynamic team at EDF UK and play a crucial role in supporting field design activities for the piping discipline. Your expertise will be vital in handling interfaces with various disciplines and resolving engineering issues during on-site installation of pipework and supports.
The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.
We are looking to recruit for the role of Mechanical Calculation Engineer.
Pay, Benefits & Culture
The salary range associated with this role is between £55,000 - £60,000 (Grade B). You’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Mechanical Calculation Engineer, you’ll support field design activities for the piping discipline at Hinkley Point C. You’ll be responsible for resolving engineering issues during the installation of pipework and supports, ensuring alignment with nuclear standards and project milestones.
You’ll perform mechanical stress analyses using tools like PipeStress, RSTAB, and ANSYS, conducting dynamic assessments under seismic and thermal conditions. You’ll also design anchorages, welds, and bolted connections, and collaborate with CAD designers to produce accurate 2D and 3D drawings.
Working closely with installation contractors and interfacing disciplines, you’ll clarify site queries and ensure technical consistency across the project. Your expertise will help maintain compliance with EPR-E procedures while driving progress on one of the UK’s most ambitious energy projects.
Who You Are
You’ll hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related science discipline, with experience in mechanical calculations, ideally within the nuclear industry. You’re familiar with standards such as EUROCODE, ASME, and RCC-M, and have hands-on experience with 2D/3D design and calculation software like PDMS, NavisWorks, PIPESTRESS, RSTAB, and ANSYS.
You’ll bring a solid understanding of piping and support calculations, and thrive in multicultural environments. Your interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate clearly in writing make you a strong team player.
Knowledge of the HPC project, EPR studies, or nuclear engineering would be an advantage, but not essential, as is experience with NI, CI, and BOP buildings. You’re committed to meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
If you’re ready to take on the challenge of being a Mechanical Calculation Engineer, we’d love to hear from you.
Closing date for applications is 30th July 2025
