Location: Hinkley Point C site, Bridgwater (hybrid working)
Are you ready to step into a role at the forefront of the UK’s energy revolution?
As a Layout Engineer with EDF, you’ll be immersed in one of the most exciting engineering environments in the world—supporting the construction and commissioning of Hinkley Point C and preparing for its future at Sizewell C.
The Opportunity
Working within the dynamic Joint Design Organisation (JDO)—a collaborative team led by the HPC Client, alongside EPR-e and key contractors—you’ll be the driving force behind resolving layout challenges on site. This is your chance to bring clarity to complexity and keep the project powering ahead.
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
In particular, EDF EPR Engineering UK is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.
At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and UK.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a competitive salary between £54,000 - £59,000 (negotiable depending on experience), bonus and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.
We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What you’ll be doing
In this high-impact role, you’ll be responsible for assessing site requests, managing layout implications, and delivering technical solutions with speed and precision. Whether it’s a Request for Information, Field Change, or Non-Conformance, you'll lead the technical charge—gathering inputs, assessing impacts across multiple disciplines, and maintaining design intent.
You’ll work closely with a wide network of experts—civil, HVAC, piping, electrical, and more—ensuring smooth coordination and effective implementation. Your deliverables may include updated 3D models, technical assessments, and interface justifications, always with a sharp focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
With a hand in managing change processes, liaising with contractors, and feeding back lessons learned, you'll play a central role in delivering one of the most complex infrastructure projects in the UK.
Who you are
You’re a collaborative, detail-driven engineer, with experience in layout or design within civil, piping, HVAC, or electrical disciplines—plus knowledge of layout principles and tools like Navisworks.
Experience working in complex, large- scale environments such as nuclear, energy or other infrastructure projects is key.
Strong people skills and the confidence to work closely with a variety of stakeholders. You’ll need to be someone who can see the bigger picture, juggle multiple priorities, communicate clearly, and stay ahead of deadlines. A proactive mindset and the ability to simplify complex ideas are crucial.
You'll also be comfortable producing clear, well-structured technical documents and applying logical thinking to your work.
