Finance Analyst

The Opportunity

As a Finance Analyst, you’ll be working alongside the Finance Lead and Management Accountant as part of a small but well-established finance function within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You’ll play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, budgetary control and staff cost forecasting. This is a great opportunity to work as part of a larger Commercial Team in ensuring we deliver strong financial management for Heysham 1.

Pay, benefits and culture

We are offering a starting salary of between £35,059 and £48,943 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualification. What you’ll be doing

Framework & Boundaries

The role requires a commercially focused, proactive, flexible thinker with a core understanding of financial principles. You will combine technical and financial expertise with good interpersonal and multi-tasking skills and will be empowered to ensure accurate and robust cost information and will have direct responsibility for challenging the business. You will be involved in producing accurate monthly accounts, ensuring key financial controls are effective, and liaising closely with other departments to provide accurate forecasts of in year spend. The Finance Analyst provides valuable support to the Finance Lead to provide challenge, assurance and reporting of robust financial information to support decision-making by the HY1 Leadership team and external stakeholders

Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Contribute to the monthly financial reporting cycle, including collation of data and calculation of monthly accruals, business partnering and challenging functional teams to ensure robustness and auditability of financial information.
  • Review and collate planning, budgeting and forecasting information focusing on challenging assumptions and decisions, ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Provide insight and input into the presentation of timely, accurate and relevant management information.
  • Challenge budget holders on financial decisions and identify opportunities for cost savings with the core mind-set of “Value for Money” and Financial Control at all times.
  • Work closely with HR Business Partners to ensure that staff cost information is reported in an accurate and robust manner.
  • Support to periodic cost/financial controls verification process
  • Implement best practice financial behaviours and support the finance team in driving a strong culture of cost control and value for money.

Who you are

Essential

  • Part-Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW etc.) or individual suitably qualified by experience
  • Good financial modelling skills
  • Experienced in planning, budgeting & forecasting
  • Ability to co-ordinate financial activities (e.g. monthly reporting or business planning)
  • Strong management information analysis and reporting, presentation, problem solving and decision support skills
  • Proven ability to build effective working level relationships across functions including at a senior level

Desirable

  • Experience of financial systems (SAP)
  • Experience of working with payroll 
  • Commercial awareness and knowledge of the energy sector

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.
