Environmental Safety Technician

The Opportunity
As an Environmental Safety Technician, you will play a key role in the implementation of radiological protection standards and support compliance with company standards and UK legislation.
This is a varied, active role where you will work with your team, other departments and independently at times. You will need to be able to respond to issues or queries in a decisive manner and be an effective communicator with the ability to build strong cross-departmental relationships.
You will be required to work flexibly to support the station’s radiological and environmental safety needs.

We are offering a starting salary of between £37,316 and £48,943 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualification. What you will be doing
You will be responsible for the delivery of health physics monitoring to Level 3 standard in order to support compliance with relevant legislation, station operations and maintenance processes.
You will be required to become a classified person under the Ionising Radiation Regulations and therefore must be 18 years or above. Following your training and authorisation into the role, you will have a wide variety of responsibilities, including:
- Measuring levels of radiation and contamination, recording results and reporting as necessary
- Carrying out routine and job specific radiological surveys
- Setting up, calibrating and commissioning radiological measuring equipment, checking all instruments and apparatus are in good order and reporting defects.
- Assisting in processing active and clean waste
- Decontaminating small items of plant
- Carrying out sample collection and analysis to comply with site licence conditions.
It is a condition of employment that you will be required to adhere to the site’s emergency arrangements and this post requires you to undertake a specific role within the Emergency Scheme. Full training will be given for any emergency that should occur.
Who you are
As a minimum, you will be educated to GCSE/National Qualification standards (or equivalent). If these qualifications include "C" and above grade passes in English and Mathematics, it may be an advantage. You must hold a full valid UK driving licence.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
