Emergency Preparedness Assistant

We are looking for a proactive, detail oriented and resourceful Emergency Preparedness Assistant who is passionate about their work and can make an active contribution to the team. In this vital role, you’ll help develop, maintain and implement emergency response arrangements.

The Opportunity

Resilient emergency arrangements are an essential part of operating a Nuclear Power Station. We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to take on this high-profile role and we’re looking for someone with drive, a sense of ownership and a “can do” attitude.  

You’ll be responsible for managing the stations emergency arrangements and ensuring an effective response is available for a variety of potential incidents ranging from nuclear and chemical to environmental and security.

The salary range for this role is from £39,543 - £68,958, but you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement secondment terms.

What you’ll be doing

To maintain adequate emergency arrangements, you will need to:

  • Become familiar with the Nuclear Site Licence and its impact on the emergency arrangements
  • Maintain adequate emergency plans and procedures
  • Liaise with senior staff from corporate functions, regulatory bodies and other off-site organisations
  • Plan and deliver exercises to practise and demonstrate all aspects of the station’s emergency arrangements
  • Specify the necessary training for emergency personnel
  • Ensure the station is compliant with applicable legislation such as REPPIR
  • Ensure emergency facilities and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
  • Supporting the associated Emergency Preparedness training programme, developing and delivery material, coordinating training programmes etc.

Who you are

As a minimum, you will have a relevant HNC level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or science related discipline and holding a relevant degree may be an advantage.

You’ll need a high level of self-motivation and drive, good communication skills, influencing skills and the ability to motivate others.

Good organisation and presentation skills are also paramount.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
