EDF Group has a global ambition to be a leading producer of green hydrogen. The UK and Ireland is  a central pillar to this ambition, including our flagship project in Teesside: Tees Green Hydrogen. For EDF-R, hydrogen offers a new route to market option for our core projects, enabling us to accelerate build-out of our 10GW+ renewables portfolio in the UK and Ireland.

As our key projects are based in Teesside, Northeast England, the candidate will require relatively regular travel there.

What you’ll be doing

The role is to assist delivery of the commercial, investment case and project management workstreams of hydrogen projects, from inception through to FID. Working closely with the Head of Power-to-X and wider hydrogen teams, the successful candidate will;

  • Lead commercial workstreams for hydrogen development.
  • Manage project internal governance processes for each project, involving relevant internal stakeholders as appropriate. This will include project reporting on progress against key milestones.
  • Manage project budgets and costs, providing appropriate project management documentation.
  • Instigate, progress and negotiate partnerships related to new hydrogen projects.
  • Collaborate with our colleagues at EDF Energy and Hynamics to jointly optimise our overall strategy.
  • Refine and implement of the UK development strategy as well as partnership, marketing, commercial and sales policies.
  • Align opportunities with the UK and Irish Government’s Hydrogen Strategy in terms of project size, timing, customer mix and geographical spread.

What do you need to be great at this role?

To navigate the rapidly evolving hydrogen market, a multi-disciplinary approach is essential. Business developers need the ability to think holistically across multiple sectors – power, industry and transport – in order to develop successful hydrogen projects.

The candidate will thrive in collaborative settings, with the ability to build deep and lasting relationships, both across EDF and externally. You will be a natural business developer with  excellent commercial and strategic skills to develop projects and partnerships.

More specifically, we are looking for:

  • Well-honed communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills with experience of developing and maintaining relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including Government agencies and key influencers.
  • Ability to operate across all levels of the organisation and externally, and will be a persuasive influencer, negotiator and decision maker who always treats others with respect and integrity, even in the face of conflict.
  • Business creation spirit with the capability to combine different customer needs and market developments to create new business opportunities.
  • Commercial awareness, with the ability to understand where value can be created.
  • Creative thinking to drive innovative structuring solutions and scenarios through influential thought leadership.

In addition, having the following would be advantageous:

  • Understanding or experience of the hydrogen industry and hydrogen policy
  • Experience working with corporate offtakers, taking an empathic approach to simultaneously ensure we meet requirements of customers whilst ensuring value creation.
  • Experience and understanding of asset project configuration and project development within an emerging regulatory environment.

Ultimately, to succeed you must be passionate about helping the UK achieve a Net Zero future.

Closing date for applications: 9th of February 2025
