The Opportunity…
We’re seeking a Payroll Specialist to manage EDF’s payroll services, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payments for approximately 13,000 employees each month. As part of the Employee Services team, you’ll ensure payroll processes align with HMRC and legislative requirements, business policies, and collective agreements.
This role focuses on driving continuous improvements in processes and systems, maintaining robust validation controls, and ensuring audit and HMRC compliance.

What you’ll be doing
Being a Payroll Specialist at EDF involves ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for all our employees, including running and reconciling monthly payrolls, identifying and resolving any errors.
You will provide expert payroll advice to support business needs, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, legislative requirements, and company policies.
Responsibilities include processing employee changes such as new starters, leavers, job changes, and ad hoc payments, while validating self service updates through our HR system. You will calculate statutory payments accurately, manage annual bonus and pay review activities, and produce essential documents such as P60s and P11Ds, offering employee support as needed.
The position oversees pension deductions, including auto-enrolment processes and third-party reconciliations, while administering flex benefits. You will support annual audits by providing evidence and addressing any issues, lead user acceptance testing for system updates and upgrades, and act as a point of escalation for complex payroll queries.
Who you are
We’re looking for the following skills/experience:
- Comprehensive knowledge of payroll issues, techniques, and statutory requirements
- Experience managing high-volume, complex payroll
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with employees, teams, and senior managers
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Skilled in relationship management, influence and diplomacy, with high integrity
- Analytical mindset to identify issues and improve team performance and processes
- Ability to plan and guide team workloads to meet deadlines and objectives
