Hunterston B Nuclear Power Station provides enough energy to power 1.8 million homes. Operated by EDF, the station is part of a large and diverse portfolio of the French energy provider. To uphold the reputation and confidence of Hunterston B and EDF, as part of the Security team, you will be presentable to give excellent first impression to visitors, regulators and partners coming on to the site who either come through the Main Gatehouse or Main Turnstyles. You will be polite when managing varying requests from colleagues, visitors, contract partners etc.  You will be professional when dealing with all duties to ensure that the station remains secure at all times. You will have safety & security at the forefront of your thoughts, as part of the Hunterston B team the safety of the Public is top of our standards.

 

The Security Department operates a 12-hour shift rota and therefore this position attracts shift pay. The team operates a voluntary standby rota for which payment is made in accordance with the Company Agreements.
 

The Person

 

Experience in a security background would be advantageous but not necessary. An understanding of why duties are performed, are recorded and subject to audit is required. You will be able to work on a shift pattern with day and night shifts. Expectation to be on a rota’d on call system.

 

You must be able to perform patrolling duties, CCTV monitoring, use of security systems, Microsoft applications, Radio communications and able to drive site vehicles. You will be able to communicate and co-operate with different levels of staff, contract partners, regulators. There will be times when you will be assisting with unexpected events, at these times you will be expected to be hands on, level headed and seeking resolutions.

 

Some of the duties/responsibilities include:

 

  • Ensure effective control of access to site
  • Ensure integrity of site boundaries; patrolling of boundary fence, site, buildings. Plant and the reporting of irregularities
  • Meet company and regulatory requirements with respect to search and entry of people and vehicles onto site and into controlled areas such as the ISB
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with procedures and direction from team leaders and in accordance with laid down plans (Emergency Handbook which includes the Security Response Plan)
  • Maintain security logs, key registers, search registers and other related records in accordance with technical training and company procedures
  • Liaise with Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) 
  • Undertake and record person/bag/vehicle searching in accordance with mandatory requirements using supplied equipment and resources
  • Monitor physical security alarm management systems, access control systems and other security assets responding to system alarms in accordance with technical competence training
  • Undertakes other security duties as tasked by the Security Team Leader

The Skills

 

As the successful Security Guard, you will have: 

 

  • Relevant security experience, such as patrolling, searching, key control and CCTV operation
  • Exemplary people skills for a demanding customer-facing role
  • Computer literacy for monitoring and responding to security systems

Competitive Salary & Benefits

 

The salary range is between £25,978 - £36,217, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency-based progression and a Company pension scheme.
