The Opportunity

Applications are invited for the position of Outage Project Manager/Planner within the Outage Management Department at Hunterston B Power Station. There are currently two vacancies, with one biased towards Project Management and the other towards Project Planning. Both positions are challenging and key to supporting the Station Outage Management team in the development of strategic planning processes, preparation and execution of the Station's Outages. The successful applicants will be responsible for liaising with contractors and station personnel to support the planning, preparation and execution processes for the outage plans.It is expected for this challenging role that the applicants will have excellent communication and influencing skills coupled with drive, determination and self motivation to succeed.

The Person

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a flexible and proactive approach to their work.  The ability to communicate effectively across many groups is essential. Experience with the use of Primavera, current Outage planning tool, is required for Planning roles but not essential for Project Management rolea as appropriate training will be given. Experience within the Project Management arena is required and also experience within the Nuclear Industry or Heavy Industrial environment. 


  • Accountable for overseeing outage preparations, identifying threats to the preparation programme and agreeing and implementing recovery plans.
  • Overseeing project interfaces, co-ordinating sub area project managers and resolving conflicts with project interfaces to ensure that the outage execution resourced plan is fully integrated.
  • Managing delivery of the outage execution plan, including; close monitoring & reporting of critical path activities & highlighting any threats to the plan, providing daily plan updates, mitigating impact of emergent work ,co-ordinating use of common services.
  • Providing the single point of contact for their Plant Area/System Outage Project and acting as arbitrator for any conflicts, maintaining project action & status boards and managing all stakeholders.
  • Ensuring that Safety, Quality & Housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Conducting the post outage lessons learned critique

Possesses and applies human performance tools and nuclear safety culture principles to enhance safe and reliable operation. 

Possesses and applies Project Management techniques to deliver Outage Area Projects.

Influencing skills to encourage other station departments, suppliers & CSFs to embrace & deliver the Outage Preparation Process milestones.

Arbitration skills to resolve project interface issues with other Area Project Leads



Entry Qualifications – As a minimum, entrants will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent) or relevant Degree.

You will be appointed as an Outage Project Manager. The salary range is between £33,446 - £71,818, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement.  The starting salary for this appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.  You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency based progression, a career average company pension scheme, access to benefits including gym membership, cinema tickets, technology offers and cycle to work scheme.  The company also offers all employees at least two days each year to take part in Force for Good Community Volunteering.
