Would you like the opportunity to be part of the next chapter at EDF? Do you thrive working in a fast paced, evolving business? We are looking for a proactive individual to join us as a Mechanical Engineer at our Gas Storage facility based near Crewe in Cheshire.

As our next Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the routine and non-routine mechanical maintenance of the process plants and their associated systems while reporting to the Engineering and Projects Manager when required. During this role, you will also oversee activities such as pipe work specifications, welding/inspection procedures, scaffolding, painting and work at height activities in line with EDFs Health and Safety standards. Full training and understanding on health and safety requirements for this role will be provided.

The Role & Skills

Working in this role, you will be responsible for supporting the engineering and projects team with the planning and implementation of major shutdowns. You’ll be developing and reviewing mechanical maintenance/engineering procedures and checklists while organising routine preventative maintenance activities.

You’ll organise maintenance systems on site including equipment registers, defect reporting systems and routine maintenance activities while maintaining and optimising high speed centrifugal gas compressors and control of pipeline system integrity. Other activities delegated to yourself in this role consist of control of subsurface works, borehole and cavity systems, controlling gas envelope integrity and providing advice on energy consumption and equipment optimisation.

To be suitable for this role, we’re looking for you to be a member of IMechE with, or working towards, chartered status. Other skills we’re looking for consist of experience in shutdown and intervention planning, health and safety legislations, management of contractors and have familiarity of computerised maintenance management systems. Previous experience of mechanical engineering within an operational site environment would also an essential requirement of the role.

The storage cavities are spread across two active dairy farms located in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, Hole House (4 cavities) and Hill Top Farm (5 cavities). The storage site comprises approximately 28 hectares on Hole House farm and 33 hectares on contiguous Hill Top Farm.  The facility sits within our wider Thermal Generation business area which consists of Coal and Gas power stations based in Nottinghamshire.

We are a small site-based team with circa 45 people, our team delivers the full operation of the facility meaning that our people get a wide breadth of experience and opportunities within their day to day roles as well as involvement in site projects and outages. We actively encourage and support our team members to continuously develop themselves and their roles to enable the continued high performance of the site.
