What you’ll be doing
You’ll partner with the business operations areas and deliver pertinent analysis to improve their financial performance on spaces such as cash flow and profitability.
- Constructively challenge the business and provide innovative solutions to lead to financial and operational improvements being made.
- Manage the relationship between the Finance Department and the business operations areas to ensure that the needs of both areas are mutually understood, and processes are delivered efficiently.
- Support risk management by ensuring business risks are recorded, assessed and monitored (including mitigations).
- Assist the development of financial forecasts for partnered business operations areas and ensure the forecasts are reviewed on a regular basis.
- Understand and analyse external economic trends, including the impact on EDF RUK and recommend actions to meet new opportunities and threats.
- Represent EDF RUK Finance in key meetings with other business departments, EDF RUK Executive and external parties.
- Deliver documentation on the team’s key processes to ensure compliance (e.g. integrity and assurance on project costs).
As Finance Business Partner you will play a vital role in developing financial forecasts for key assets and challenging business teams on their assumptions. You’ll build strong, trusting relationships with managers to enable honest discussions, enhance decision-making, and drive profitability across diverse assets at varying lifecycle stages and operating models.
- As the bridge between the business and finance specialists, you’ll provide advice, know when to consult experts, and escalate complex issues when needed.
What do you need to be great at this role?
You’ll demonstrate excellent communication skills and be able to convey complex information in a simple and concise way (both written and verbal) to stakeholders, adapting your style and content for the audience. You will have strong communication skills, both written and verbal including ability to prioritise conflicting activities and be proactive. With strong attention to detail, you will have knowledge of accounting policies, processes and systems.
You will also be able to demonstrate:
- Accounting qualification (ACA/ CIMA/ ACCA) with relevant post-qualification experience.
- Knowledge of both UK GAAP and IFRS, experience of preparing statutory accounts (if applicable) and the confidence to apply them to practical examples is essential.
- Able to challenge the way things are done and look at ways to make improvements to the business.
- Proficient IT skills (Spreadsheets, database, Visual basic)
- Committed to continuous improvement and development of skills and knowledge.
- Knowledge of internal systems (Power BI, Anaplan, SAP, BOFC)
- Act with complete integrity and confidentiality.
- Experience of the energy or services industry is desirable.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.

Location: Alexander House. We offer a flexible first way of working. You can work on a hybrid basis with a base from our Durham office.
Contract: This is a maternity cover contract for up to 15 months
