Operate Technician

A career that will deliver change. Together, we’ll help Britain achieve net zero.

We’re recruiting for Operate Technicians to join our team at Dungeness B Power Station. We can offer a competitive salary from £32,356 - £53,520 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. The starting salary will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

The Opportunity

As a key member of our Operations Department, you’ll be responsible for the safe and reliable operation of a nuclear power plant throughout your day-to-day activities.

With your willingness to learn and aptitude to improve our collective performance, you’ll be comfortable performing in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Full training will be provided, so we expect your drive, professionalism and self-motivation to be the driving factors in succeeding as the newest member of the team.

We have opportunities in day operations roles as well as shift work, so please let us know on your application if you have a preference.

The Role

Everyday you’ll be maintaining attitudes and nuclear professionalism behaviours that improve performance and achieve a safe working environment. You’ll exhibit the highest standard of performance through the delivery of your tasks, adopting a measured approach to the changing priorities and workload during your shifts. These tasks will include:

  • Supporting the outage process by providing the resource and technical skills required
  • Monitoring plant conditions, maintaining records of values and observations
  • Responding to requests from other departments to investigate matters such as plant alarms and performing any actions as a consequence
  • Logging activities performed accurately and comprehensively, to ensure a thorough handover to the oncoming shift
  • Supporting our transitional phase from a generation station to a safe de-fuelling station.

Training also continues throughout your employment, where you will have the chance to obtain further experience and knowledge as well as support ongoing improvement through training committee participation. You’ll be required to be a member of the Emergency Scheme, once fully trained.

The Skills

As a minimum, you should be educated to GCSE/National Qualifications standards (or equivalent). Ideally an HNC will be required for further progression in the role. It may be advantageous if you hold these qualifications to “C” and above grade passes in English and Mathematics.

You’ll be required to maintain the necessary physical fitness to perform the roles identified above, in particular those associated with the emergency response team where the wearing of breathing apparatus while performing physical work is a necessity. To comply with Emergency Scheme arrangements you should live within 25 miles (30 minutes) of Dungeness B Power Station.

Competitive Salary and Benefits

At EDF we’re dedicated to offering flexible benefits that support our people across all aspects of their lives.  We’re delighted to offer a range of benefits to support our employees’ physical, emotional and financial wellbeing.

In addition to a salary ranging from £32,356 - £53,520 we offer a company pension scheme, paid holidays and a range of flexible benefits. If a shift worker, you would also be entitled to a shift allowance.

Please let us know if you require flexible working arrangements by highlighting this in your application. Closing date for applications is 30th January 2021.
