Training Instructor

As a Training Instructor, you will be employed within EDF’s Nuclear Skills Alliance (NSA), a collaboration between Nuclear Operations and Nuclear New Build (NNB), providing technical skills and knowledge for various phases of the nuclear lifecycle. You do not need nuclear experience, but either a Mechanical, Electrical or I&C Engineering/Technician background would be beneficial. As well as the technical training required for your role you will also receive training to become a Fleet Certified Instructor (FCI), so while prior experience in training may be beneficial it is by no means essential.

 

Hinkley Point C: Reporting into the Eng & Tech Training Group Head, the Training Instructor will be responsible for delivering key engineering and scientific fundamentals training to people across the business.
As well as delivering the training, they will ensure that the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) is applied by regularly evaluating the effectiveness of training courses, acting on trainee feedback and ensuring training materials are kept up to date, ensuring technical accuracy and quality and exploring opportunities to make the training as engaging and rewarding for trainees as possible. They will also be responsible for taking ownership of Training Requests, as well as representing the team in training committee meetings.

What you’ll be doing…

 

Reporting to either the Maintenance and Skills Training Group Head or the Engineering and Technical Training Group Head will be based at either Hinkley Point C or Gloucester Business Park. A hybrid working arrangement will be supported. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Undertaking Fleet Certified Instructor (FCI) training within 2 years.
  • Developing and delivering Maintenance and Engineering Training related training material.
  • Delivering training in classroom and plant simulator environments, as well as providing coaching and mentoring of trainees to expedite learning.
  • Acting as course coordinator for responsible training areas.
  • Leading and delivering training to groups from 1 up to 20 people, depending on the subject and environment.
  • Acting as the subject matter expert for your area and demonstrating a deep understanding of the relevant company standards, becoming the company expert and representative in your areas.
  • Ensuring company values, safety and OpEx are embedded throughout the training, training material and lesson plans.
  • Communicating with line managers for the successful development of competence within your staff.
  • Maintaining relationships with both Nuclear Operations and EPR stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts for development of material.
  • Communicating with external contractors if required, to provide training support services.
  • Fully contributing to the business plan of the NSA and NNB in support of achievement of our company organisational goals.

 

Who you are…

 

A relevant training qualification would be needed for this. You will have experience in deploying effective training methodologies (Systematic Approach to Training). Along with experience in training, learning and continual improvement processes. Do you have experience of promoting training across a large, complex major project organisation. Are you able to lead training projects and have knowledge of external training standards and procedures. Ideally you will have either a Mechanical, Electrical or I&C Engineering/Technician background.

 

An understanding and experience of modern learning methods, as well as experience in utilising technology for training delivery. You will have the ability to multi-task and juggle different priorities, working well independently with the capability to influence.

 

In addition, we are looking for someone who:

 

  • Has good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Has a thirst for learning and able to get to grips with fundamental Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
  • Enjoys working in a team, but also able to work on own projects.
  • Likes problem solving.
  • Can remain calm and customer focused.
  • Takes charge and drives projects forward.
  • You are willing and able to travel when required to deliver relevant training away from your base location.
