The Opportunity


We are currently looking to recruit the Site Inspection Manager, to provide independent review and challenge to HPC Site, using differing and complementary techniques and feeding back findings directly to the concerned functions, and to the Site Construction Director and their Senior Management Team. As a Site Inspection Manager, you will have to ensure the robustness of the organisation and its compliance with Regulations, internal policies and international standards in the areas of Nuclear Safety, Quality, Health and Safety, Environment and Security. You will report into the project through the Head of INA and the Safety and Regulation Director.


The review and challenge process at HPC are built on WANO and IAEA best practices and is in line with UK and French experience. This will enable the project to produce, maintain and implement credible management arrangements through the Integrated Management System, to support compliance against the requirements of the Nuclear Site Licence and to support the future safe operation of HPC.  


Carrying out this role will require you to establish effective working relationships with senior stakeholders on site and wider, including with corporate and site specialists both in NNB GenCo at the working level and within the UK Nuclear and Environmental regulators. You will use their experience and credibility to identify insights from inspection and assessment activities and influence the organisation to adopt valuable safety, quality and business improvements. 


As a Site Inspection Manager, you will manage a team of Independent Assessors who are assigned activities aligned to their relevant specialist knowledge and experience (e.g. Nuclear Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental, Security or Quality). The team is accountable for using their expertise to recommend risk areas to be explored as part of the independent assessment scope, for sign off by the ISIT manager. You will provide review and coaching on presentation and development of recommendations to ensure appropriate delivery of meaningful and solution orientated messages.

The Role


You will be accountable to the Head of INA in the HPC Safety and Regulation Directorate for the introduction and enacting of the Independent Site Inspection capability.


You will be required to;


•    Design the annual assessment programme by reviewing risks to the business.
•    Manage the ISIT branch, maintain and develop the necessary processes and procedures to conduct independent assessment of business and compliance processes covering relevant aspects of the design, construction, commissioning, and operational functions. 
•    To work with other parts of the business to secure, where necessary, specialist resources needed to deliver the plan.
•    Provide insights gained from the safety assessment to Senior Management in order to influence and improve safety and quality working practices across the Project.
•    Represent the Independent Nuclear Assurance Function with the ONR/EA, providing assurance of compliance with the required licence, permit conditions and company arrangements.

The Skills




•    Nuclear plant knowledge. 
•    Leadership in a technical environment.
•    Excellent communication, stakeholder management and organisational skills.
•    Good knowledge and understanding of Site Licence requirements.
•    Good understanding of quality arrangements required in UK nuclear regulated environment
•    Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation including CDM, Nuclear Site License, and Environmental Permit requirements.
•    Knowledge of SyAPs requirements.
•    Degree qualified in a related discipline.
•    Demonstrable, significant INA experience
•    Experience of effectively leading a team




•    PWR/EPR experience 
•    Proven track record in a construction, process plant operating and commissioning environment.
•    Major infrastructure project experience
