What you will be doing…

In this role, you will focus on developing procedures, building training programmes and specifying equipment to deliver a world class radiological protection programme for HPC operations. You’ll work alongside a diverse team, each bringing unique skills and experience to the table. This dynamic position will allow you to contribute across various radiological protection workstreams, enabling opportunities for professional development. You'll be responsible for delivering and continuously improving the programme, providing radiological protection advice to drive success. Principal responsibilities will include:

  • Co-ordination and delivery of your workstreams within the Pre-Operations Radiological Protection programme and business plan to ensure full compliance with legal and organisational requirements.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of radiological protection standards, training programmes, facilities and equipment for the operational power station.
  • Liaising with external stakeholders, including regulators and industry working groups, to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Providing on-site support at the HPC construction site during construction, commissioning, and operations to maintain high standards of radiological safety.
  • Ensuring the HPC project adapts to UK-specific issues related to radiological protection, including best practices and legislation.
  • Embedding best practices across the project, fostering a strong safety culture within the organisation for radiological protection and beyond.
  • Contributing to the development of the Pre-Operations organisation, serving as an ambassador for the organisation and its aims in all activities.

Who you are…

We are looking for you to ideally hold a degree (or equivalent) in a science-related discipline and bring practical experience with an understanding of radiological protection principles, either within nuclear power plant operations or transferable experience from another industry. You will have a proven track record of developing and implementing arrangements to meet the requirements of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017. You will:

  • Possess a technical foundation in radiological protection balanced with a pragmatic mindset.
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude and readiness to apply knowledge flexibly.
  • Bring high energy and enthusiasm to the role.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to the ever-changing project environment.
