The Opportunity

 

Hinkley Point ‘C’ (HPC) is a vital part of the UK’s future energy strategy. As the first of the UK’s next generation of Nuclear power stations, HPC is both of high profile and high complexity. 


We are looking for a Project Manager to join our Primary Circuit Installation Team. You will join a small team with direct responsibility for the installation of the heart of HPC – the reactor pressure vessel, steam generators and pressuriser. 


You will work with an expert team of contractors to ensure that the installation is completed on time but most importantly to the very high-quality requirements we need. You will be working with a multicultural multidisciplined team with a huge amount of different experiences. 

As a Project Manager you will provide leadership to ensure the effective delivery of activities in the programme to time, cost, safety, and quality, while recognising and managing the impacts of the programme on the wider Project.

The Role

 

As a Project Manager, your main responsibilities will be, but are not limited to:

 

•    Defining the work scope to be delivered within the contract and the interfaces to the other elements of the programme. 
•    Assisting in securing the required resources to meet their project requirements, promptly identifying any personnel shortfalls or issues within their project team.
•    Developing and implement strategies and plans in line with the overall programme execution plan (PEP), setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised, and executed. 
•    Maintaining effective communications with all stakeholders and executing the project or PEP strategies within their contract or package of work.
•    Driving the delivery of the contract or package activities to ensure they are delivered safely on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements. 
•    Monitoring and manage the progress of the programme - track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters.
•    Anticipating, managing, and resolving issues within the contract or package. Identifying risks and facilitating the resolution of all issues raised, developing, and updating the programme budget, and escalating any issues to the Senior Project Manager.
•    Ensuring that lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.
•    Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all project team members.

 

 

The Skills

 

You will be characterised by the following knowledge, qualifications and experience:

 

•    Professional Qualification in Project Management such as APM PMQ or other recognised qualification.
•    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Project Management and working knowledge and management experience of construction activities.
•    Demonstrated experience of managing major projects from concept to handover, throughout the project lifecycle within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
•    Demonstrated success in managing and/or developing:
•    Engineering design, contract, and field execution strategies for project delivery.
•    Multi-discipline EPCM Projects.
•    Procurement and management of complex contracts.
•    Control of costs, risk, schedule, and change.
•    Management of commercial claims and associated negotiation experience.
•    Proven successful experience in engaging multi-level stakeholders including contractors, consultants, and advisors.
•    Working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
•    Proficient numeracy, analytical and critical reasoning skills.
•    Understanding the needs of nuclear quality and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled.
•    Understand how to apply a graded approach to quality.
•    Experience operating within NEC and FIDIC commercial arrangements an advantage
•    Working knowledge of French language an advantage.
