The Opportunity

#WeAreEDF and are leading the transition to a cleaner, low emission electric future, tackling climate change and helping Britain achieve net zero.

The Joint Design Office (JDO) was created by EDF to reinforce Hinkley Point C’s (HPC) site-based engineering capability to allow for a quicker response to on site engineering queries and problems. Among its main aims, The JDO is committed to managing the changes to Civil, Mechanical and Electrical design during construction according to safety, quality, schedule and cost.

Created with EDF’s new nuclear engineering division (DIPNN UK) and Edvance UK, a primary benefit of this organisation is to save time on construction by having on-site reactive answers and solutions, allowing construction teams to continue their activities with minimal delay. The JDO also protects Responsible Designer teams, in France, and allows them time to focus on core engineering design.

We now have a fantastic opportunity for a Plant Layout Engineer to join the JDO, with the responsibility of supporting the construction of the European Pressurized Reactors (EPR’s) at HPC, by providing engineering assessments and technical solutions related to the layout scope.

The Role

•    Assessing and listing the impacts of the site change on the layout design and on all other disciplines (Piping, HVAC, Electrical, Steelwork and Civil)
•    Opening the dedicated change process to launch the implementation of the impacts
•    Reporting to the Layout Discipline Lead achievements, progress and difficulties, and additionally raising alerts on any aspects of the design when identified
•    Contributing to the closure of design open points after the delivery of design packages to site

The Skills

To be successful in the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

•    Degree qualified or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline
•    Good knowledge and understanding of general layout rules for an industrial project
•    Experience in one or several areas of engineering: layout, piping engineering, mechanical, HVAC, safety etc
•    Excellent stakeholder management skills

Desirable:

•    Knowledge of the general operation of a nuclear power station and the associated safety aspects (in particular, aspects relating to flooding, fire, radiological protection, high energy line ruptures, etc)
