The Opportunity

You’ll play a key role in supporting the Fire Safety team by ensuring the system meets all compliance standards as it transitions from construction to commissioning. Acting as the fire alarm Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Principal Contractor (NNB GenCo), you’ll also drive the continual improvement of fire safety systems and arrangements at HPC.

What you’ll be doing

As a Lead Fire System Engineer, you will provide fire alarm advice to the Principal Contractor, other contractors, and fire safety committees. You’ll identify and ensure the installation of appropriate fire alarm systems and manage alterations to existing systems. You will also oversee the testing, inspection, and maintenance of fire alarms to meet safety standards.

In this role, you’ll lead a team to complete fire alarm installations, repairs, and servicing across various systems. You’ll help develop fire safety procedures that meet legal requirements and work with managers and design teams to ensure fire alarm strategies are properly implemented on construction sites.

You’ll stay up to date on industry regulations and best practices, support incident data reporting, and assist with the transition between temporary and permanent fire alarm systems. Additionally, you’ll take part in the on-call rota for HPC and help improve fire safety standards over time.

Who you are

You’ll need a strong understanding of fire alarm system regulations, including both portable and fixed systems, as well as experience managing teams. Your knowledge of fire alarm systems in construction and complex environments is key, along with a comprehensive grasp of BS5839 standards. You should also be familiar with proactive fire systems and solutions for high-risk activities.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as you’ll need to build strong relationships with various teams and clearly present complex fire alarm issues. You must be able to conduct detailed analysis, recommend actions, and ensure their implementation. A solid understanding of risk assessments, including dynamic risk assessments in construction settings, is also critical for this position.

You should have a proven track record in delivering fire alarm solutions and ensuring compliance within the commercial and construction sectors. A qualification from IFEDA or FIA (or equivalent) is required, along with expertise in wireless fire alarm systems. Experience in developing fire alarm designs, policies, and procedures, as well as knowledge of EN54 systems and EAL Level 3 certification in design and commissioning, will be essential for this role.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

Closing date for applications: 1st October 2024
