Join EDF as a Fuel Route and Radioactive Waste Operations Engineer, and you’ll join one of the most exciting and challenging projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK.

 

The Opportunity... 

 

We have opportunities to join HPC as a Fuel Route and Radioactive Waste Operations Engineer starting in October 2023, April 2024 and April 2025. Please indicate your preference and availability for dates in your application.

 

As a Fuel Route and Radioactive Waste Engineer you will act as the operational expert for Fuel Route and Radioactive Waste equipment during commissioning and as HPC transitions into the operational phase.

 

In this role you’ll be responsible for safe and reliable management of Fuel Route and Radioactive Waste operations across both HPC units.

What you’ll be doing…

 

  • Providing Operational support to commissioning activities on fuel handling and radioactive waste equipment and processes.
  • Developing and implementing Fuel Route and Radwaste operational procedures in readiness for first nuclear fuel receipt and beyond.
  • Coordinating the preparation for fuel handling activities such as testing and inspection of fuel route equipment.
  • Providing personal supervision of operations, maintenance staff and contract partners for fuel handling activities including initial investigation and fault-finding of plant problems or alarms on fuel route systems.
  • Ensuring the safe and reliable receipt, storage, movement, treatment, conditioning, transport and disposal of nuclear fuels, non-fuel core components and radwaste materials (including solid, liquid, and gaseous radwaste).
  • Overseeing the management of operations in accordance with company instructions, licences, permits, regulations, and operational technical specifications.
  • Establishing and reinforcing high standards of performance and nuclear professionalism using the Operator Fundamentals as foundation to do so.

 

Who you are…

 

Your background may include some of the following:

  • HNC or equivalent in technical field or engineering field.
  • Knowledge of nuclear fuel handling, storage arrangements, radioactive waste plant and management arrangements.
  • Experience of supervising nuclear operations or equivalent experience. 
  • Reliability and able to demonstrate a proactive approach to maintaining high operational standards.
  • Experience of PWR/AGR commissioning or operations would be desirable but not essential.
  • Ideally working towards a charted engineer/scientist status.
  • Experience of the requirements and expectations of UK laws, regulations, technical specifications, nuclear industry operating experience and best practices.
