The Opportunity

We are currently looking to recruit multiple E, C&I Engineers, who will support the overall delivery of the Asset Management Programme and cover the following areas: Equipment Reliability, Maintenance, Plant Handover arrangements, and Surveillance programmes and Periodic Testing.

We are seeking passionate and enthusiastic individuals, whose drive, personal ownership, and nuclear professionalism are as important to the role as innovation to improve performance and deliver business plan objectives.  Nuclear Safety is our number one priority and therefore you will need to be able to demonstrate this in all your duties, acting as a role model for those around you. You will also need to demonstrate behaviours and qualities so as to inspire and coach others through a challenging programme of commissioning and into commercial operation.

If successful you will be responsible for helping to shape the next generation of Nuclear Power Stations in the UK; developing and implementing the equipment reliability process and associated maintenance arrangements required for a safe and reliable plant. You will also provide technical oversight during construction of HPC, building up knowledge of Nuclear and Conventional systems in preparation for the handover of equipment from Commissioning. This is in preparation for the starting-up of Hinkley Point C (HPC) power station and the subsequent day-to-day technical management for 60-years of commercial operation.

As an Engineer you will be involved in the development of key operational deliverables for the future HPC power station.  You will be expected to apply your knowledge and experience to help establish and expand technical functions such as Maintenance, Engineering, and Surveillance Programmes on site, to ensure readiness for world-class performance of the new generation of pressurised water reactors in the UK.  This will support the growth of the future operational capability, by implementing and adapting the Technical Standards and Strategies in close collaboration with other operational functions. Eventually you will become responsible for providing overall engineering support on your allocated systems.

The Person

You will report to a Programme Area Lead during the erection and commissioning phases of the Project, where your day-to-day activities will include:

•    Supporting the preparation, verification, and approval of documentation and/or management arrangements for:

o    Equipment Reliability Component Classification Documentation
o    Preventative Maintenance Strategies
o    Performance Monitoring strategies, e.g., On-Line & Off-Line Condition Monitoring, Predictive Maintenance, System Health monitoring, etc.
o    Surveillance Programmes with respect to Licence Condition 28 Handover preparation and coordination
o    Periodic test documentation
o    Engineering and Maintenance Standards
o    Maintenance Work Instructions

•    Supporting Control Centre processes for ensuring smooth plant handovers with respect to technical knowledge and information transfer to build-up a SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel) Site Engineering capability
•    Building-up technical knowledge of HPC systems, both in Nuclear and Conventional plant areas
•    Maintaining interfaces (technical & functional) across the HPC Project, Contract partners, the EPR fleet and the current Nuclear Generating fleet
•    Supporting the procurement of workshop, laboratory and stores equipment and coordinating the subsequent fit-out schedules
•    Introducing technical governance arrangements, processes, and procedures
•    Adapting to changes in levels of accountability, responsibility, and training to meet the business needs

The organisational structure will evolve on the approach to operations, as will your responsibilities.  The day-to-day duties of those in operational Engineering roles will be to:

•    Hold the Engineering responsibility for selected systems, including monitoring the performance and long-term health of systems, implementing and monitoring maintenance and inspection regimes.
•    Identification of defects and corrective actions, and liaising with (and guiding) Technicians in first line response
•    Ensure that the plant and buildings are maintained in-line with the requirements of License Condition 28, Environmental permits, Statutory legislation, and Reliability Centred Maintenance regimes; with defects rectified in a safe and timely manner

The Skills

As a minimum, applicants will have a relevant HNC/D, degree, or equivalent experience, and have experience in a technical or engineering discipline.

During your career, you will have gained the following, which will be required to deliver this role with competence:

•    Understand, enact, and constantly reinforce high delivery and safety standards.
•    Open to Challenge and seek Continuous Improvement - Reinforce attitudes and nuclear professionalism behaviours that improve performance and achieve a safe working environment and zero harm.
•    High attention to detail – Collate and analyse data to develop and improve processes and strategies, be proactive in identifying emerging issues.
