The Opportunity


As our next Conventional Safety Manager, you’ll be part of a pivotal role within our HPC Client team. This role ensures that all HPC activities prioritise the health and safety of our workforce and the public, aligning with our Zero Harm ambition. As part of this team, you will ensure compliance with the Construction (Design Management) Regulations 2015 and support the Principal Contractor, Principal Designer, and Contract Partners in meeting these obligations.

What you will be doing…


In this role, you will lead and coordinate all health and safety activities and resources, ensuring full compliance with agreed standards on behalf of the Client. Your role will involve developing and implementing robust health and safety strategies, policies, and standards throughout the project lifecycle to achieve construction excellence and legal compliance. Additionally, you will ensure the project's adherence to the obligations set out in the Construction (Design Management) Regulations 2015, specifically regarding the Client's responsibilities. Other responsibilities will include:


  • Engage with external certification bodies and regulators as necessary, fostering strong relationships and ensuring compliance.
  • Conduct thorough audits, reviews, and assessments to pinpoint and share best practices while addressing any deficiencies, ensuring the project aligns with safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Champion continuous improvement by tackling Industrial Safety issues, capturing and disseminating valuable learnings, and driving innovation and best practices through industry networks and the HPC Way behavioural programme.
  • Provide comprehensive reports on health and safety performance, perform root cause analysis of safety incidents, participate in safety reviews, and develop robust health and safety management policies that adhere to international standards, company guidelines, and CDM Regulations.
  • Maintain and uphold the highest standards and quality of the Client’s health and safety arrangements, ensuring rigorous oversight and continuous enhancement.
  • Assist the Head of Client Health and Safety in strategically delivering health and safety arrangements and assurance for the HPC project.


Who you are…


To excel in this role, we’re looking for you to possess a combination of technical qualifications, in-depth knowledge, and extensive experience in health and safety within the construction industry. Key skills and experience include:


  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent, with Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH).
  • Detailed knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, including requirements for compliance and practical application in an operational setting.
  • Significant experience as a senior leader in high-hazard, complex industrial construction projects.
  • Expertise in health and safety practices specific to the construction industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and written skills for diverse audiences, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Comprehensive understanding of legal obligations in the construction industry regarding health and safety, along with substantial experience interacting with regulators.
  • Strong proficiency in statistical analysis and data presentation.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic, with the ability to engage effectively with individuals at all levels of the organisation.
