The Opportunity…

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

Once operational, we require a diverse team of dedicated and professional staff to continue our energy journey, and this is where we need you!

We are seeking Electrical Commissioning Technicians to form part of an expanding team. In your role, you will be carrying out a range of commissioning tests on electrical systems with a strong culture of nuclear & conventional safety. You will play a key role in successfully bringing Hinkley point C into operation.

You will form part of a small team to undertake commissioning tests on a day-to-day basis, reporting the test team leader but part of a much wider multidisciplinary team delivering commissioning activities. This will require teamwork, an eye for detail and a willingness to challenge any unsafe practices.

What you’ll be doing…

• Ensuring that all activities are carried out with full regard to site licence requirements, statutory regulations, company and local directives, procedures and Safety Rules.
• Supporting the development of early careers technicians through mentoring.
• Supporting the Test Team Leader in delivering commissioning tests to plan.
• Execution of testing activities, including working with other disciplines where required as part of multidisciplinary teams.
• Working with commissioning engineers to ensure successful test execution, and overcoming non-conformities from commissioning tests.
• Undertaking fault finding activities where instructed.
• Using asset management tools for control of work.
• Attending pre-job briefs and taking part in the risk assessment and permit to work process.
• Working within permit to work / safe systems of work.

Who you are…

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals, with a strong focus on nuclear safety to safely commission the next generation of nuclear power stations. You will be an organised & self-motivated individual, with a positive attitude and be able to contribute to a journey to excellence. You'll need drive, a sense of ownership and a “can do” attitude. You will be required to demonstrate the highest standards of nuclear professionalism and safety.

You will have experience of conducting commissioning tests, return to service tests, operational tests or maintenance tests and working in an industrial environment where safety hazards are tightly controlled and managed to ensure a Zero Harm.

Essential:

• Time served trade apprenticeship.
• Educated to at least ONC level in an electrical engineering subject.
• Demonstratable experience of carrying out commissioning or return to service tests in a regulated environment.
• Background in power generation or other high hazard industry such as Oil & Gas/utilities.
• Working knowledge of Electrical distribution and control systems such as Low and High Voltage switchgear, Inverters, & UPS systems.
• Working knowledge of standard industry practices for testing and commissioning

It would be great if you also have:

• DSEAR qualifications such as COMPEX.
• BS7671 18th edition.
• Protection relay testing experience.
• Previously held safety rules authorisations.
• Health and safety or Electricity at work act applicable training courses.
• Working knowledge of CDM regulations.
