Commissioning Engineer

Commissioning Engineer

Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater, with the possibility of occasional working from home, depending on the needs of the business and potential travel to other sites.

Are you passionate about ensuring that engineering systems operate at their optimal performance through effective commissioning practices? Are you comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges during the commissioning process? Are you eager to leverage your technical expertise to enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability in complex engineering projects?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as our next Commissioning Engineer at Hinkley Point C!

The Opportunity

In this role, you'll thrive in a diverse environment, using your expertise to ensure the seamless management of the interface between the Regulators and the Commissioning organisation.

You'll collaborate closely with the Commissioning Delivery Team and other key project areas, including technical and oversight functions. Together, you'll develop robust controls and regulatory compliance measures that will be essential to the HPC Commissioning Arrangements. Building strong, collaborative relationships with the Regulatory and Licensing teams, safety case experts, contractors, project delivery teams, and the plant's operational organisation will be key in managing regulatory activities as part of NNB’s broader regulatory strategy.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary between £53,000 - £55,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you will be doing

In this role, you’ll manage the critical interface with ONR and EA during Commissioning, ensuring the organisation follows agreed protocols for regulatory engagement. This includes coordinating meetings, handling correspondence, and managing assessments and inspections. You’ll ensure that regulators maintain strong oversight of Commissioning activities, organising, and participating in quarterly meetings, while also supporting other regulatory engagements to foster effective interactions. Additionally, you’ll lead forward planning for regulatory inspections and meetings, conducting pre-meetings and ensuring the right NNB representatives are involved.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and agree on agendas, notes, actions, and commitments for ONR and EA meetings with all stakeholders promptly.
  • Arrange the logistics for Commissioning-related regulator visits to HPC, ensuring everything is in place for each engagement.
  • Ensure timely and proper submission of documents to the regulators.
  • Oversee the action tracking process, ensuring all actions are completed on time.
  • Manage and close out any Regulatory Issues raised during the process.
  • Produce and share reporting on Commissioning activities with the regulators.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication between internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that all standards, expectations, and requirements for regulatory engagement are fully understood and adhered to.
  • Ensure the commissioning process complies with nuclear, environmental, and industrial safety regulations, incorporating international best practices for safety and technical excellence.

Who you are

In this role, you’ll be the key link between internal teams and external regulators, managing relationships and ensuring smooth communication across the board. While you won't need direct people management experience, you'll need strong interpersonal skills to navigate different conversations and engage with various stakeholders, both internal and external, at all levels.

With the above being essential skills to take on this role, we would also like for you to have some of these desirable skills:

  • Possess a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
  • Bring a solid technical background in industrial, power generation, or process engineering.
  • Demonstrate experience in engaging with multiple stakeholders effectively.
  • Have experience building strong relationships with regulators, such as ONR, EA, or others.
  • Showcase proficient oral and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly to stakeholders, contractors, departments, and the project at all levels.

The team is experienced and ready to support your growth, so we're looking for someone who's organised, adaptable, and confident in their ability to influence and hold their own in discussions. Your enthusiasm and drive for continuous improvement will be highly valued in the Commissioning team at HPC.
