The Opportunity

The Joint Design Office (JDO) was created by EDF to reinforce Hinkley Point C’s (HPC) site-based engineering capability to allow for a quicker response to on site engineering queries and problems. Among its main aims, The JDO is committed to managing the changes to Civil, Mechanical and Electrical design during construction according to safety, quality, schedule and cost.

Created with EDF’s new nuclear engineering division (DIPNN UK) and Edvance UK, a primary benefit of this organisation is to save time on construction by having on-site reactive answers and solutions, allowing construction teams to continue their activities with minimal delay. The JDO also protects Responsible Designer teams, in France, and allows them time to focus on core engineering design.

We now have an opportunity for a Civil Engineer to join EDF on the HPC project, working on design activities specifically for the Conventional Island (CI) and Balance of Plant (BoP).

The Role

As an experienced Civil Engineer, you will support the Civils Team Lead in modifying and adapting the design of civil structures received from the Back Office, and substantiating the adapted design of the structures on the HPC project. You will collaborate with and be supported by a group of detailed designers.

You will have the following accountabilities:

•    Modifying reinforced structure designs
•    Maintaining Edvance’s QA procedures in delivering the Civil Work design
•    Working together with the CAD designers in the preparation of design drawings/models
•    Managing engineering changes in line with company procedures
•    Liaising with colleagues in Edvance Paris (Malakoff)

The Skills

To be successful in the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

•    Degree Qualified in a related engineering discipline or equivalent experience
•    Experience of large scale complex civil design projects in nuclear, energy, oil & gas or public sector works
•    Experience of working in a design office
