The Opportunity


We are currently looking to recruit an Industrial Safety Lead to be responsible for ensuring that the industrial safety arrangements for the Hinkley Point C operational site are developed and delivered to meet the project milestones. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of one of the most exciting and challenging projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK. We are embarking on the safe construction of two EPR’s at HPC in Somerset, join us on this journey.


As an Industrial Safety Lead, you will be responsible for liaising with the construction industrial safety team to ensure a smooth transition from construction to nuclear operational arrangements. You will ensure that the necessary operational procedures are in place and that the operational workforce is trained and all the necessary procedures implemented.


You will sit within the Pre-Operations department, which is building two new nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point C. The Pre-Operations department is responsible for ensuring that we have the facilities, trained people and procedures we need prior to starting operation. 


You will work with the construction industrial safety team to ensure the smooth transition of arrangements from construction to nuclear operations.  In addition, you will work closely with the site construction team to develop the arrangements for risk assessment of the Pre-Operations team’s work during the construction phase and through commissioning to the operational phase.

The Role


•    Provide subject matter input to the training team to ensure that the organisation for the operational site is adequately trained on industrial safety topics. 
•    Develop and maintain an effective collaborative working relationship with the HPC construction site and Nuclear Generation industrial safety teams.
•    Define and develop industrial safety procedures for the operational site.
•    Work collaboratively with all the departments to develop the arrangements for risk assessment of work for Pre-Operations during construction, through commissioning and into operations.
•    Provide industrial safety advice from an operational station’s perspective to teams designing facilities and equipment.
•    Work with other safety leads to create a strong safety culture for the operational site

The Skills

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience 


•    A detailed understanding of Industrial Safety regulations and requirements and the ability to implement in a large facility.
•    Ability to communicate clearly at all levels of the organisation, both verbally and through written reports.
•    As a minimum, applicants will have a HNC (or equivalent).
•    Previous experience of developing and maintaining industrial safety arrangements
•    Computer literacy adequate for the role, including MS Office


Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience 


•    Diploma or equivalent in a relevant subject  
•    Experience of carrying out audits and investigations
•    Experience of working in a high hazard industry such as nuclear, oil & gas, chemical, construction
