Area Integration Manager

The Opportunity

 

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is a nuclear site, based in West Somerset, 15 miles from Bridgwater. The Nuclear New Build (NNB) ambition is to build two major EPR nuclear plants, and the position will be part of HPC Project Management Team working within the Delivery Command Centre.

 

The Area Integration Managers (AIMs) will be responsible for considering all aspects of the planning of a designated section of the works on the Hinkley Point C project as a service from the PMO to Area Management, through coordinated support between planning and integration engineering.

 

The key focus of the AIM is to provide insight and intelligence to Area Leadership to ensure effective identification of issues and timely deployment of any mitigations to protect the HPC Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) schedule.

The key areas are:
•    Critical Path Activities.
•    Milestone achievement 
•    Baseline Performance (Bulk work).

 

This will involve conducting integrated and cross-cutting coordination reviews of construction preparation, looking at arrangements in detail from wider perspectives to provide oversight, ensuring pre-requisites, dependencies and constraints are managed in a balanced and integrated approach to ensure the activities on the site run safely and smoothly and in accordance with the project schedule (IWS). 

 

The primary objective will be to identify and eliminate any issues prior to the work commencing on the site and will involve interfacing with the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Multi-discipline teams.
 

 

The Role

 

Safety is the overriding priority for any activity performed by Delivery Integration which includes Nuclear Safety as well as Industrial Safety. Planning the work must also recognise the importance of a strong Nuclear Safety and Quality culture and the importance of a right first-time attitude.
 

The AIMs analysis horizons go beyond currently on-going activities on site and include the all the relevant work to be completed on the site through to the Commercial Operation Dates, through the typical responsibilities below:

•    Provide dedicated and integrated PMO capabilities directly to Area MDTs to optimise area integration and Best for Project Decision making.
•    Provides objective & credible advice to the PM community, listen to their requirements, support as required, but be intolerant to deviation from baseline.
•    Provide proactive resolution of potential issues presenting threats to baseline schedule delivery over the short, medium, and long terms.
•    Facilitate and maintain a balanced tension between Areas and Programmes driven by requirements to support delivery of baseline Schedule, Cost and Risk performance across the EPC scope.
•    Use the available reach back into the PMO and Digital Services Department to ensure accurate and timely data is made available and insightful analysis is fully utilised and clearly presented to support prompt Area / Programme decision making.

 

This is a Leadership role, both in terms of championing the PMO & Digital services with Area SPMs, Programme PMs and Supply Chain to align the organisation around delivery of the IWS and leading a multi-function team.
 

The Skills

 

The AIMs will have broad knowledge of Engineering, Procurement and Construction activities and the integration of these activities. In addition, they will possess a good understanding of project planning processes and the ability to identify and resolve complex interfaces. 

 

This includes experience across many types of EPC contracts, specifically knowledge of NEC and FIDIC contracts. The AIMs will have the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong management and communication skills and commercial awareness are essential. Specific knowledge, skills, qualification, and experience include:

 

Essential

•    Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Equivalent in Construction Management or related subject or a demonstrable level of experience based on years of experience (10 plus years) and project assignments.
•    Experience operating in a high security environment advantageous.
•    Experience and understanding of working in a Nuclear and Safety Quality Culture.
•    Understanding and awareness of working in a highly regulated environment.
•    Ability to build and manage a diverse and high performing team.
•    Ability to work collaboratively and in an integrated team environment.
•    Excellent organisational and communication skills.
•    Management of strategic planning developing construction sequencing and recovery plans.
•    Good working knowledge of commercial principles affecting construction matters.
•    Ability to produce informative, concise reports.
•    Motivational approach and the ability to energise team members by building a climate of trust and understanding.
•    Awareness of project change control and, risk management processes.
•    Extensive working knowledge in the delivery of large complex construction projects.

 

Desirable

•    Understanding of planning tools including Navisworks and Primavera P6.
