Sizewell C Civil Engineering Apprentice

The Opportunity

 

If you are looking to kick start a career that is rewarding, where you can really make a difference, then come join our Civil Engineering Apprenticeship Programme. You will work on one of the most exciting and significant sustainable energy projects that our country has ever seen, being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Sizewell C is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for at least 60 years.

 

Civil Engineers provide technical and management input to develop design solutions for complex Civil Engineering problems. You will work as part of a team of Engineers and other construction professionals through all lifecycle stages of development, design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of EDF Engineering projects, including Sizewell C. 

 

You will use your broad skillset to work in areas including sustainable construction, structural integrity, geotechnics (Engineering behaviour of earth materials), materials, tunnelling, marine and coastal Engineering, water, waste management, flood management, transportation, and power. 

Your work will cover the following areas within Civil Engineering: 

 

  • Design 
  • Health & Safety and Analysis 
  • Site Construction and Environment  
  • Earth Works and Temporary Works 
  • Project Installation  
  • Tunnelling and Marine 
  • Project Delivery

 

What we’re looking for 

 

  • Five GCSE’s in the A*to C or 9 to 4 range including English, Maths and a Science subject. 
  • 112 UCAS tariff points; having either at least three A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science or their equivalent or will have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Technician.
  • A genuine interest in the energy industry and a passion for engineering, sustainability and being a part of making a difference. 
  • We will need you to be open minded, flexible and be willing to learn new ways of thinking to succeed in a dynamic fast paced project environment.
  • Having a growth mindset that brings innovative ideas. 
  • Effective people skills are key, as well as being able to demonstrate high standards of behaviour, and character. 
  • Effective communication skills will be required to manage your colleagues and manage demands on your time to finish your college work and day work to the required deadlines.

 

Training, development, and support for you:  


This programme will equip you with thorough theory-based understanding and the practical skills needed for a career as a professional Civil Engineer, taking responsibility for the creation, design, implementation, and management of Civil Engineering projects. 

 

The 5.5 year programme is designed to progress apprentices to Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration through the Engineering Council  and the Institution of Civil Engineers, as part of the apprenticeship End-Point Assessment (EPA), immediately after successful completion of the BEng (hons) degree. This will allow apprenticeship graduates to make accelerated career progression, the future is yours for the taking!  This will lead onto potential future career options that you can apply for, within engineering as a Civil Engineer, where you could work towards becoming a Chartered Engineer of Chartered Nuclear Engineer. 

 

You will have a dedicated Career Manager to support you through your 5.5 years with us and a Mentor to support you with your work with the Institution of Civil Engineers. You will have several rotations within different teams on the project, along with placement managers, to gain vast experience of one of the World’s Biggest Infrastructure Projects to support your learning at University!

Sizewell C Limited (Sizewell C) is Nuclear Site Licensed company whose business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Sizewell C was formerly under the majority ownership of the EDF Group but is currently majority owned by HM Government and operates as an independent company. EDF remains a key shareholder in Sizewell C and the business therefore maintains close links to EDF as a part of its ‘nuclear family’.

Where you’ll work:  


You will be based at our local site offices in Suffolk. Your training provider will be the University of Suffolk and you will attend the Ipswich Campus 1 day a week during Semesters.
