The Opportunity

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting and largest megaprojects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project is now seeking private investment with a view to start construction in 2024. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Independent Site Inspector to join the Sizewell C nuclear build project in the Independent Nuclear Assurance team, a function within the Safety, Security and Assurance Directorate. This will be an onsite role at Sizewell C Suffolk.

The Role

You will provide independent review, assessment, and challenge of the safety on the Sizewell C construction site, including project Industrial Safety, Environmental Safety, Emergency Preparedness, and Physical Security. You and the INA team will represent and communicate the Independent Site Inspection view with key stakeholders including the UK Nuclear Regulators (ONR and EA), and directly influence the direction of the project to fulfil safety and compliance requirements.

This role will oversee activities on site, and as a result is based on location at Sizewell C.  There may be some opportunity to work flexibly from home, around the project activities, and we provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

The Skills

This position requires a skilled construction or safety practitioner, and you will need the ability to work in a highly regulated assurance role.

You will require a good awareness of the UK regulatory regime, be able to communicate effectively at all levels in the organisation and consistently demonstrate high ethical behaviour, integrity, humility, and character.

The ability to influence at all levels of the project will be essential, with experience of being able to identify and effectively challenge substandard behaviour and practices.

Having experience in a large infrastructure project and / or experience in a nuclear/high-hazard highly regulated industry is a significant advantage.

You will require the ability to build relationships and influence senior stakeholders and Regulators.

Ideally, you will have detailed knowledge of relevant good practice and codes/standards in construction and/or industrial safety.

If the above sounds like you then we would love to hear from you!
