Chemistry Lab Team Leader

The Opportunity
At Sizewell B Power Station, we are looking for a Chemistry Technician Team Leader to join our Technical and Safety Department. As someone with an appreciation of PWR Primary, Secondary and Auxiliary system chemistry, you will be managing both laboratory and plant operations. You will need a strong understanding of Radiological and Chemical Safety, for example in the laboratory and application of COSHH.

What you’ll be doing
Duties of the post will include:
- Leadership of a diverse team of Chemistry Technicians
- Staff training, development and pastoral care
- Resource Management and prioritisation
- Safety management
- Control and oversight of work delivery
- Oversight of Nuclear Professionalism and HU standards in the laboratories
- Implementation of the QA programme.
- Management of Laboratory instruments
- Management of Laboratory budgets, including Purchase of instruments, service contacts and consumables.
- Implementation of the chemistry QA programme
Who you are
You will hold a HNC in a relevant subject as a minimum, a degree would be advantageous.
Experience in lab analytical chemistry skills would be advantageous. You will need an understanding and experience in quality control and assurance practices within a laboratory environment. You will be supporting site emergency arrangements, outages and dry storage campaigns as well as providing technical advice to support plant operations.
Candidates should have knowledge of chemical monitoring, standards, and techniques. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience in the field of chemistry and leadership.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership to chemistry technicians to deliver the business imperatives of providing high quality service in support of Equipment reliability, Chemical Safety, Plant longevity and Safe Reliable operations.
You must be able to demonstrate good team working, planning, communications, and a willingness to work flexibly.
The work of the chemistry team is varied, and the successful candidate will be expected to lead staff and drive successful outcomes in a wide range of task areas. As part of the role, the successful individual will join a day shift rota, with some weekend working included as part of this. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will also have a nominated role in the station Emergency plan.
Excellent organisational, communication and people management skills are important, as well as self-motivation in your role and a pro-active approach to dealing with technical issues. We’re also looking for you to have a positive outlook with the ability to drive improvements.
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
