Design Integrity Engineer

We currently have a vacancy for a Modifications/Safety Case Engineer at Hinkley Point B Power Station. You will be working within the Reliability and Lifetime Engineering Group within the Engineering Department. The group's main responsibility is to produce a safety case justification, prior to plant modifications, to maintain the system’s design integrity.

Over the last 46 years, Hinkley Point B has generated 311 TWh of low carbon and is now entering a new phase in its life - defueling and decommissioning. This involves the safe removal of all spent fuel from the reactor core, the cooling ponds and stores whilst looking ahead and preparing for deconstruction. During this stage, the station will see transformative change and are keen to recruit a talented individual looking for their next challenge to their existing core of expertise.

At a time of Nuclear Resurgence, Hinkley Point B offers a unique opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within an operational defueling environment whilst also looking ahead to future potential opportunities in decommissioning and deconstruction.

As a station, Hinkley Point B is immensely proud of its history and is looking forward to new challenges as it starts a new phase of its life. This is a great opportunity to come and join an incredible team to help you start or continue your career as a Nuclear Professional.

Application closing date:  4th April 2023

Pay, Benefits & Culture

We can offer a competitive salary with a range of £40069- £84,892; with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. The starting salary will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

What you'll be doing

You will, with the company’s Maintain Design Integrity (MDI) process, produce Engineering Change (EC) packages supporting changes to the plant design, maintenance and inspection policy.

Key roles include:

  • Contributing to Design Engineering’s key function of providing a demonstration that design changes continue to meet the station design intent and that configuration control is maintained.
  • Ensuring that all changes are carried out with full regard to Site Licence requirements, Statutory Regulations, company / local directives, procedures and safety rules.
  • Being a member of a team of design change practitioners, undertaking design changes to operational plant or apparatus in order to support maintaining and improving its reliability. The team will also justify the retirement of plant or apparatus, at the end of its life, when it no longer has a Nuclear Safety role.
  • Ensuring station documentation and drawings are maintained and accurately reflect design and configuration change

Who you are

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual, whereby drive and ownership are as important to the role as innovation to improve station performance and deliver business plan objectives.

  • Holding a relevant HNC (or equivalent).  A degree in a relevant field would also be beneficial but not essential.
  • Building relationships with internal management and members of the team and strong communication skills.
  • Maintaining a level of organisational skills able to work under their own initiative.

In addition, candidates should possess appropriate engineering experience and abilities applicable to equipment reliability, maintenance and modification of complex plant equipment. This will also include the ability to understand, with appropriate training, the design specification and safety requirements of the plant and apply these in all aspects of the role.

Join us. Together, we will help Britain achieve net zero.
