Renewables Apprenticeship 2020

Welcome to EDF Renewables

EDF Renewables is part of one of the world's largest electricity companies and our investment and innovation in the UK is bringing down costs for consumers and bringing significant benefits for communities.

With our operating portfolio of 36 wind farms and battery storage unit (almost 1GW) across the UK, from the Scottish Highlands to Northamptonshire, we are providing some of the much needed new affordable, low carbon electricity to the UK.

Work is well underway on the 450 MW Neart Na Gaoithe offshore wind farm project which is in the Firth of Forth and we've extended our Edinburgh office to accommodate around 60 new team members.

We have more than 2 GW of renewables projects in planning and development and a quarter of those are consented. We also have offices in Rainton Bridge near Durham and in London.

We know our people are our most valuable asset and we work hard to create a great place to work. This means we're focused on creating an inclusive and fulfilling working environment, where everyone has a voice and the opportunity to thrive.

Take your next step and join us. We believe that generating and supplying electricity isn't just about power; it's about the power to transform lives and futures.

The Opportunity:

At EDF Renewables, we’re big on supporting people as they set out on their career. Over 4 years, you’ll learn from experts, gaining valuable experience while studying for a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. You can expect on-the-job training and the kind of practical experience you simply can't get on campus. On the scheme, you'll follow the Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician Apprentice Standard.

The Training Programme:

Year one: You’ll be in full time residential study at a Tyneside Engineering College, completing a year in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering including both academic and hands on learning within a realistic training environment. You’ll undertake Global Wind Organisation (GWO) training courses and complete inductions and orientations at your EDF Renewables base location whilst also undertaking an EDF UK Group induction.

Years two and three: Your time will be split between your studies and on the job learning at your EDF Renewables location.

Year four: You’ll spend most of your time at your EDF Renewables location. You’ll have developed your knowledge and skills from your studies in the workplace and you will have captured the learning evidence as part of your training and development portfolio. The final stage of your apprenticeship will involve you completing a significant end point assessment which will be required as evidence of completion and qualification for the Level 3 BTEC in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

As well as all the support you need, you’ll also enjoy plenty of opportunities to get involved in meaningful and challenging work once your studies are underway. That doesn’t mean you’ll have too much on your plate. You’ll have to put a lot of work in to manage your studies and your day-to-day duties but we can make sure we manage your workload accordingly.

The Future:

Once you’ve completed the scheme, you’ll have both an academic qualification and years of experience within EDF Renewables. That means you’ll be in the best possible position to continue your career. The future is yours for the taking!
